jenny_jenkins seems to be a really nice person, that's what I'm going to do now.
But before that, um ... hi. I've been a fan of football and my national team since the World Cup 06 for many, convoluted reasons, but somehow my brain was predominantly occupied withthe future ruler of the world my darling captain Philipp Lahm until this spring. Everything changed in March (for reasons which have yet to be discovered), and since then I've been to very scary places in my quest to find fanfic, drooled over pics, watched some nerve-wracking games, and ultimately spent the last ten waking hours combing through this comm, giving myself a Mesut-high. It's quite nice as you'll all know ^^.

A feature has been done of Mesut's school with an eye to the Euro Stars it has produced - specifically: Neuer and Mesut - neither of whom were scholastic trail-blazers, it appears! His teachers were interviewed and a beautiful and affectionate portrait of Mesut as student is the result. Teachers always seem to make very observant, and very earnest ("we are so glad he's kept his feet on the ground") interview subjects!
The most interesting revelation in the feature however: it seems the school was very important in getting him noticed by Schalke. As will be revealed he didn't have the physique or athleticism the club's scouts wanted, so they had ignored him. He was so good in school matches however...

One of the lovely things about being an Ozil fan - there's no false modesty from our bug-eyed, crinkly-eared hero! Any excuse at all and the lad removes his shirt! Also: he looks so sweet with the post-game after-glow and a certain amount of alcohol content in his blood-stream!
And it turns out he knows how to dance (sort of...)
Most importantly though - he has acquired a new nickname! "Sea Bream" or Besugo - bestowed by Iker Casillas, who was caught shouting it at him during the match against Sevilla and used it on Facebook for the following picture:

When listening to this recording of Antenne Bayern's Johannes Ott calling up Mesut pretending to be National Team coach Jogi Löw, all I could think of was Jan Delay's comment on meeting Mesut that he was such "a nicely brought up fellow."
It begins with "Jogi" fooling the receptionist - who is thrilled to hear his voice on the other end and puts him through. Plainly he would have been happy to prank Sami Khedira as well ("one or the other will do just fine!" he tells the receptionist) but Mesut happened to be available...

This post contains the translation of his press-conference given on March 23 (Oliver Bierhoff also attended). The Youtube video of Mesut's portion of the press conference has been taken down.
It was an unusually charming press-conference - with the press-pack behaving like fan-boys ("How much time do you spend with Sami Khedira!")
Following the press conference are the press reviews - which were many but not varied! The press was charmed beyond words by Mesut's shyness and the critical reaction was amusing!
