In this post we have anticipatory Mesut-centric, Dortmund Semi-final news, a feature article in Marca, unbelievable praise from a Betis player and from Pepe Mel (Real Betis's coach) and a look back at the match against Borussia Dortmund in November and Mesut's incredible free kick.

The Real Betis section comes to us courtesy of [livejournal.com profile] meowlizz while the splendid gif-making artistry of [livejournal.com profile] andriy_7 is responsible for the stunning gifs to be found in this post. Much love to both of you.

Pepe Mel "Mesut Ozil Is On A Level With Cristiano Ronaldo and Messi";
Ruben Perez: I have played against Mesut and I suffered a lot."

Real Betis's coach had this to say after the last league game (in which Mesut played 90 minutes and scored at the tail-end of both halves) -

He is one of the great underrated players in the league. He’s on par with Cristiano and Messi but just doesn’t score. Madrid has a diamond in that player, and when he scores more goals throughout the season, he’ll be appreciated like he deserves.

Meanwhile, Ruben Perez, the Real Betis player, was also interviewed after the game. [livejournal.com profile] meowlizz found the interview on Punto Pelota.

There's been a lot of press about Mesut over the past few weeks. His performance in Valencia received high praise from everyone - from Marca, As, the international press etc... His performance against Getafe also got some attention from Cuatro's cameras.

The Ozil & Ronaldo Society!

The beautiful connection apparent between the two of them is the focus of the video. Together they've scored or created a huge number of goals in the last two league matches - Mesut had a hand in all 5 in Valencia, Ronaldo assisted one directly and scored two of them. And against Getafe, Ronaldo had a hat-trick while Ozil was involved in creating 3 of the goals - the first, second and third of the match (off his corner, off his final pass, and through a break that he orchestrated with Angel di Maria).

We also some lovely gifs - thanks to our dearest [livejournal.com profile] andriy_7  because of course, Cristiano and Mesut celebrated the last goal so beautifully. Cuatro has the reverse angle:

Part Two: Valladolid vs Real Madrid - The Long-Awaited Mesuty Match Spam - With Exclusive Gifs By Andriy-7!

[livejournal.com profile] andriy_7's gif of Mesut's gorgeous winning free kick is SO gorgeous I'm just going to give away the plot from the outset!

Mesut used to take the free kicks all the time for Werder Bremen - a team that knows how to score off them with some considerable style - from the centre and right side of the pitch. Bromantic interest Marko Marin (now at Chelsea) would take them from the left. They were often successful. Free kicks from Mesut resulted in goals against the likes of Bayern Munich and Valencia (in the Champions League).

Mesut's first free kick goal was against derby-rivals Atleti (way to pick your team!). That was a low drive that had teammate Mahamadou Diarra shouting on the bench at the rest: "You've no idea how hard that is" and bromantic interest Xabi Alonso giving him a huge cuddle. His second came against Dortmund last month. His third was at Valladolid (above).

Meanwhile, Mourinho's expression part-way through the second half:

The second part of an especially Mesuty Match spam... )

Part One: Valladolid vs Real Madrid - The Long-Awaited Mesuty Match Spam - With Exclusive Gifs By Andriy-7!

It was a game featuring two lovely goals from our lovely boy, a bunch of very handsome lads in green, a frozen pitch, a more than usually concerned Papa-José, and three come-backs.

Elegant dribbling from Mesut and a back-heel assist from the Kitten-of-War.

And as always, this community provides the best perspective, thanks to the genius of our resident gif artist - [livejournal.com profile] andriy_7

This game was special for our modern-day crinkly-eared hero. He scored twice. He was MASSIVELY FEATURED on the sporting pages of every single paper the next day (that link will take you to this community's screen captures of the newspapers a day later). So this spam will be split into two halves. Also, Andriy sent too many gifs and beautiful pictures for the Internets to handle :p

In the biggest game of the league season, against rivals Atletico Madrid, Mesut put in a lovely performance and scored the second goal!

Sami has plainly decided that Mesut may be a pest with an out-of-control Twitter account, too many bromances, and a new Tumblr addiction, but what the hell! Life without bug-eyes is not worth contemplating!

"It may be silly of me, but life without you is not worth contemplating!
"

He's even decided he can put up with Sergio - sort of. Mesut meanwhile is sporting a Cheshire cat grin that suggests he knows he's won this fight.

There's more bromantic intrigue in 4 photographs than you could possibly imagine... )

My very beloved [livejournal.com profile] andriy_7 doesn't only send pics and gifs (and I am shamefully late getting them up due to LJ problems and a migraine from hell - sorry sweetheart! Please be patient!) he sometimes trawls Marca for us too!

There have been many articles he's found over the past few days that are of great interest concerning Mesut, much of it complete speculation, of course, designed to cause us anxiety - but some incredibly sweet stuff too.

The latest from Marca (and please note: it actually has info the comm didn't know previously about the Serzil phenomenon!)

Sergio Ramos' desire to dedicate a goal to Mesut Özil against Deportivo, in order to cheer up the German – who is at his lowest ebb since he joined Madrid – stemmed not only from the Seville-born defender's friction with José Mourinho, but also from the close friendship between the two players.

For some time now, Ramos, in his role as one of the club's vice-captains, has been helping the German pair of Khedira and Özil - both have now been with 'Los Blancos' for three years – to fit in at Madrid. But his relationship with Mesut goes deeper than that.

More seriously shock-inducing sweetness beneath... )

A Brace Against The Faroe Islands: The Mesuty Match Spam

Based on the past three years, September would seem to be our modern-day-hero's favourite month where the national team is concerned. Three goals in two qualification matches during his week with the national team, one of them a penalty against Austria. But first - the Faroe Islands, against whom he got a brace.

You wouldn't know it from his typically delighted match-day expression,
but this boy was about to score a brace!

The Supercopa Spam Part Two: Stultification, Campeones, Celebrations & A Study In Samisut!

With Livejournal back up and (nearly) running properly, here is part two of the Mesuty spam - as seen through the eyes of [livejournal.com profile] andriy_7 and his beautiful gif creations - comprising the second half and the celebrations for the super copa!

The second half was a fascinating thing to watch. 10 man Barcelona dominated possession in the second half, and nearly got back into the game, for a couple of reasons.

A win and some bromance... )

Major Mesuty News Of The Week!

There have been two friendlies, and there will be another this week (with Mesut's national team, Germany, against Argentina). Here are some lovely pictures and gifs and a couple of Facebook updates, courtesy of our beloved [livejournal.com profile] andriy_7

Mesut first met up with Santos Laguna in spiritual home Las Vegas. Happily, Mourinho didn't allow him off the pitch and saw to it he was in New York to meet AC Milan!

I do want to start the spam (aside from posting Belly!pics to get you shameless hussies interested!) by strongly suggesting that community members check out the posts by [livejournal.com profile] suzanne410 and [livejournal.com profile] skywonder9 just before this one. They were able to witness Mesut playing while in the United States, and their posts have lovely candid shots of our crinkly-eared hero.

And because [livejournal.com profile] jenny_jenkins seems to be a really nice person, that's what I'm going to do now.

But before that, um ... hi. I've been a fan of football and my national team since the World Cup 06 for many, convoluted reasons, but somehow my brain was predominantly occupied with the future ruler of the world my darling captain Philipp Lahm until this spring. Everything changed in March (for reasons which have yet to be discovered), and since then I've been to very scary places in my quest to find fanfic, drooled over pics, watched some nerve-wracking games, and ultimately spent the last ten waking hours combing through this comm, giving myself a Mesut-high. It's quite nice as you'll all know ^^.

[All pics in this entry are shamelessly stolen from either this comm itself, google search, or any and all blogs on tumblr with Özil in their title. I'm sorry, I didn't keep track of their sources. :/ ]

Mesut's Post Match Interview

Mesut was interviewed very briefly after the match after receiving his man-of-the-match honours. The sound was dreadful, since the microphone were not fixed until after Jogi Loew began to speak, but his facial expressions are priceless.

His face from 2:40 on is particularly adorable, so watch carefully for that moment! Otherwise an unusually confident performance. Mesut's post-match interviews are in general more confident than his usual ones, exhaustion being an antidote to shyness.

Translation by me, [livejournal.com profile] jenny_jenkins

Mesut Displays The Usual Refreshing Lack of Modesty & Is Shockingly Muy Feliz

One of the lovely things about being an Ozil fan - there's no false modesty from our bug-eyed, crinkly-eared hero! Any excuse at all and the lad removes his shirt! Also: he looks so sweet with the post-game after-glow and a certain amount of alcohol content in his blood-stream!

And it turns out he knows how to dance (sort of...)

Most importantly though - he has acquired a new nickname! "Sea Bream" or Besugo - bestowed by Iker Casillas, who was caught shouting it at him during the match against Sevilla and used it on Facebook for the following picture:
