A Look Back: Mesut Talks at SomeLength About Life In Madrid

(Originally posted in the old [livejournal.com profile] o_ozil community on March 23, 2011)

I've had several requests to re-post this press-conference translation after Mesut pointedly declined to discuss life in Madrid in his last press-conference. This post contains the translation of his press-conference given on March 23 (Oliver Bierhoff also attended). The Youtube video of Mesut's portion of the press conference has been taken down.

It was an unusually charming press-conference - with the press-pack behaving like fan-boys ("How much time do you spend with Sami Khedira!")

Following the press conference are the press reviews - which were many but not varied! The press was charmed beyond words by Mesut's shyness and the critical reaction was amusing!

Love to [livejournal.com profile] ext_1127286 for reminding me to post it!

So. For all the people going "WTF?" now, bear with me. This is a true, if slightly silly story and... I believe it is relevant to this community.

The title says it all. Unamadridista posted a link to a video of the Spanish press visiting Mesut's home and interviewing his younger sister, Nese, and his mother.

Things to note:

The eyes are definitely genetic. :) Nese looks like a pretty tough character. You don't mess with little sis. His mother chose to answer the journalists' questions in Turkish, with Nese interpreting. According to Nese, Mesut's "very affectionate, very funny and likes to joke around a lot."

Unfortunately, I can't seem to embed the video. But you can watch it here @ RTVE

While [livejournal.com profile] jenny_jenkins recovers from from her hattrick bliss, let me contribute Mesut's interview in which he almost, ALMOST is totally boss until the very last minute when he does manage to fumble. (He was short on time, natürlich. Sami was waiting for his celebratory hug. :D)

Somewhat crappy youtube video and translation behind the cut.

I do score goals now and then )

What follows are two very random things. One of a bro_omantic nature, the other one... I don't know what, actually.

One.

While Mesut is anything but short (slender, mayhap, but not short!), has buffed up nicely and I absolutely adore his suddenly very sculptuesque chin, this tumblr picture just really rams it home:

Sami's really, really tall there sitting next to him. Look at those massive shoulders. Phew.

(Oh, hello. Size difference kink. Well, I never... Okay, I guess. I submit.)

Point Two, in which Mesut's profile reappears in interesting places )

Mesut scores his first goal of the season, his first goal against Barca, and puts in a splendid performance in the first game of the season!

Today, Mesut played in his sixth Barcelona Derby in just under nine months. On Wednesday he will play his seventh.

A Striker Assists and A Play-Maker Scores A Goal.

The number 9 set it up. The number 10 scored it.

Mesut played the first half of the game against Philadelphia Union. Xabi Alonso returned to the midfield. Both were substituted at half time. The way the game played out probably had a great deal to do with these two substitutions.

An Interview with Mutlu and Serdar Özil

In anticipation of the upcoming round of 4 Barcelona-Derbies, the German press took an unusual interest because of the participation of two of its National Team players. They tracked down a certain big brother for a chat.
