Mesut Özil's Inescapable Destiny has, as usual, beaten everyone else to the finish line in their assessment of Mesut's season at Real Madrid. Their verdict - it was outstanding. Their headline labelled him the Vorlagenkönig (King of Assists).
Mesut finds the German and Spanish tabloid press accolades exhausting.

Mesut has broken Figo's record of 17 assists (he matched it two weeks ago) by passing to Adebayor for the 2-0 against Almeria. Marca have labeled that pass the assist of the season and "from another galaxy." It was made with the outside of his left-foot, and was a counter-intuitive pass, made in front of, rather than between, Almeria's off-side trap to find Emmanuel Adebayor between two defenders.
Mesut is tied for the position of top goal-assistant in Europe this year.
When Mesut took a shot in a Champions League game this season, he scored from almost precisely 1 in 2. Of all Madrid's regular forwards, he takes by far the least shots on goal across all competitions, averaging about one shot in a game. Di Maria (as an example) takes three times as many. Ronaldo - seven times as many.
He took 4 shots on goal in the Copa. He scored 3 times. He has been most successful against Atleti in the Madrid Derby - scoring 3 goals in 4 matches (once off of a free-kick) and assisting twice.
His disciplinary record is the cleanest among the regular starting 11.
