A Little Crözil & A Little Fabiözil

The first stage of the Euros is over. Thanks for your support. I'm also happy however about
the goals from Cristiano and Portugal progressing. Just in our group we have 5 players from Real Madrid
who have made it into the quarter final - which is what we had hoped for.

A Bromantic Print Interview, Two Videos, Gifs, & Training News

This interview, which was one of two sent to me yesterday by reader Jose and which I have translated from n-tv.de/sport, has been heavily abridged by me as I was translating it so that the interesting things about Sergio Ramos, Karim Benzema, Jose Mourinho, Joachim Loew, Philipp Lahm, Sami Khedira and Cristiano Ronaldo remain. The rest was the usual repetitive fluff or were things that have come up in interviews over the past week.

It was a Mesuty day today... )

From the Ridiculous To The Sublime: The Ballad of Mesut & Cristiano
& Zonal Marking Strikes Again!

Two articles for your reading enjoyment this afternoon. The first reads like the lolziest fan-fiction. The second is the most recent Zonal Marking effort - the world's best tactical blog in my opinion, and one that is, frankly, quite in love with Mesut. And yes - the ridiculous music is totally relevant!

The Ballad Of Mesut And Cristiano
L'VIV, UKRAINE - JUNE 13:
By Kevin McCauley - Contributor

Cristiano Ronaldo and Mesut Özil miss each other. They might act like they don't need each other, but deep down, they know the truth.

The Portugal Match Spam, Press Reviews, Video Interview & Zinedine Zidane

Germany 1 -  0 Portugal - Match Pictures
('72 Gomez)

I haven't time to write up this game properly. Ozil made 5 scoring chances, but it was a poor performance over-all from Germany, lacking in fluidity or speed. Because Germany would normally expect to meet an opponent like Portugal in a quarter or semi-final it was also a cagey game with a knock-out feel about it. Most of Germany's lack of speed came from the simple desire not to lose the ball. Passes were lacking in ambition going forward and the defence spent much of the evening monopolizing possession and passing among themselves.

There was also Portugal's seeming desire to draw the match, based on Holland's poor result against Denmark earlier in the evening, though that impression might have come from their inability to get the ball off Germany for most of the evening. Unusually for a Germany match, the defence and keeper Manuel Neuer have picked up most of the man-of-the-match accolades, with one exception which you will see below.

The CR7 Post - Mesut Is Interviewed About Portugal By Kicker &
Shares Thoughts On CR7 In Welt Online!

Germany will play Portugal in two days in their opening game and a great deal of interest has naturally been expressed on the game and on CR7 in particular in the German press. And true to his father's promise of much more Mesut exposure from now on, Mesut has been in the spotlight on this subject as the German National Team's resident Cristiano Ronaldo expert.

Mesut was in high demand this week

The first part of this post comprises a description Mesut "wrote" about Cristiano Ronaldo that is part of a longer piece on the player. The newspaper seems to have interviewed him on the subject and to have amalgamated all his answers into straight prose rather than as a question and answer. This makes it far more fluid.

The second part of this post is Mesut's featured interview (quite short) in Kicker magazine of just this morning. He is their "Interview of the Week" this week and he is asked to explain specifically about the meeting with Portugal.

Mesut Is Interviewed By Bild Zeitung, Talks Slang & Accidentally Confirms Sami Khedira's Engagement! Also: A Very Strange Loewish Training Exercise!

Four of the Bild Zeitung fan-boys have interviewed our modern-day hero at the team hotel. I've interspersed the interview with training photographs.

Sami: "How could you fall for such an obvious trap?"
Mesut: "We can't all be smart, like you!"

Mesut Displays The Usual Refreshing Lack of Modesty & Is Shockingly Muy Feliz

One of the lovely things about being an Ozil fan - there's no false modesty from our bug-eyed, crinkly-eared hero! Any excuse at all and the lad removes his shirt! Also: he looks so sweet with the post-game after-glow and a certain amount of alcohol content in his blood-stream!

And it turns out he knows how to dance (sort of...)

Most importantly though - he has acquired a new nickname! "Sea Bream" or Besugo - bestowed by Iker Casillas, who was caught shouting it at him during the match against Sevilla and used it on Facebook for the following picture:

A Goal That Is Worth Its Weight In Gold: Mesut Visits Bayern Munich & Scores The Away Goal!

It's tempting, in the happiness over the near-certain Liga victory, to want to skip over to reviewing the match at the Bernabeu. But if all goes well on Wednesday, the game against Bayern could be very important in view of Mesut's away goal.
