"Germany Stole Özil!" - Capello Joins the Ranks of Upset  International Coaches & Other Mesuty News!

For Old Time's Sake: The England-Germany BBC Match Of The Day Coverage, "Papa" jokes with the press, Marca changes its tune & the number 10 is cursed - possibly!

Kidnapping victim Mesut Özil

We begin with the theft of the century (assuming it's true!) - Germany's apparent day-light robbery of Mesut from...Gelsenkirchen?

Capello Joins the Ranks of Upset International Coaches

Fabio Capello "Germany Stole Özil from Turkey"

Note: location of Gelsenkirchen - which is not in Turkey.

..."Germany has 5 players with Turkish Roots, who have chosen to play for Germany. They get passports. We all know what happened," said the Italian, suggesting that the DFB have lured players like Mesut Özil with money into their ranks.

With the Daily Mail designating Miroslav Klose and Lukas Podolski as "fake Germans", Capello urged Michel Platini to take action against the DFB.

Soul-brother Diego Maradona. "I don't think Ozil fits into the Real Madrid line-up at all...
...anyway, I don't want to talk about him. That boy ruined our World Cup.

Matthias Sammer has responded to this attack..."I can't understand this comment. For us, the door is open to players of all backgrounds. We welcome anyone, but we don't recruit anyone from elsewhere."

The English FA has yet to respond.

The irony of an Italian manager commenting on Germany's dual-nationals when he coaches the England team has apparently yet to occur to Capello.

"We all know what happened" - BBC Match Of The Day Coverage of The England-Germany Match!

In honour of Fabio Capello's back-handed compliment for Mesut (who has been transformed, in his fevered, tormented brain, into FIVE players instead of just one - as [livejournal.com profile] sandrin2008 helpfully pointed out) and for those of you in need of a refresher course - here is a reminder of "what happened" - to quote Capello. It's the BBC post-match coverage of the game that is forever etched into Fabio Capello's memory.

True Story: Jenny's nose began bleeding at precisely this moment.

Mesut's contribution, of course, was dragging John Terry out of position for goals 1 & 2, making a counter-attacking run with Thomas and Schweini for goal number 3, and out-running Gareth Barry's clumsy attempt to rugby tackle him to the ground before nutmegging Ashley Cole for the assist of the tournament for goal number 4.

Enjoy!

It never gets old!

"Papa" Jokes With The Press

According to Marca, whose journalists attend Mourinho's press-conferences, Mourinho was asked about Mesut's comment that he is like a second father to him.

Mou’s response (as translated by UnaMadridista, whose Spanish is perfect, of course): “he said that, and now the others make fun of him because when we’re together, they say things like ‘look, your father is coming’ or ‘míster, your son is here.’  Others say things like ‘míster, your son is much more handsome than Özil and you’d never have a son as ugly as Mesut.’  This is done affectionately, these are affectionate words, and shows that we have a great relationship that is deeper than one between a player and coach.  There have been many jokes made about Mesut’s declarations.”

Mesut back in Madrid.

I am sure we Ozileris appreciate the sentiment about close relationships, without quite understanding how the team's members could have failed to appreciate Mesut's uniquely beautiful face, or his adorably crinkly ears! Jose jr. may be one enormously cute kid, but he certainly hasn't got Mesut's "high fashion" look, if you take my meaning.

At any rate, we can be certain Marcelo and Pepe are behind this. Post-football careers in high-fashion do not beckon, apparently.

Marca Changes Its Tune (Again)

After declaring that Mesut's performances have been as flat as a bottle of soda that has been left out for two days (direct quote) and selling him off to Liverpool, Marca has changed its tune slightly. Their new opinion: one of Mourinho's projects in the new year will have to be to get the best out of Mesut, a player who has "exhausted himself establishing himself in his first year" and whose problem is likely "not physical but mental exhaustion."

Mourinho's chores for 2012, which includes some difficult personnel balancing acts. Frankly, most teams would love to have these problems...

Now it doesn't do to take Marca too seriously. They started the season declaring Mesut one of Madrid's most important players, last week they wanted him sold to Liverpool. In October they wanted Sami Khedira dropped (and sold to Manchester City!) in favour of a 4-1-4-1 formation, thought Angel di Maria was out of form (Ha!), loved Kaka, hated Kaka, and have announced Madrid's purchase of Neymar some 90+ times. But for once they've probably got it right.

(Also - [livejournal.com profile] andriy_7 downloaded all these pretty pictures from their site so I needed an excuse to use them! Awfully flash, aren't they?)

Let's hope the holidays have given him some much needed rest and that...

...The Curse of The Number 10...

Bug-eyed gorgeousness in today's magazine.

...doesn't take its toll on him!

Sneijder went on to be very lucky at Inter...

Because Marca has made a list of players and events that have been unlucky for Madrid - or have been unlucky at Madrid. Lass Diarra (a favourite object of disdain from the Spanish press, for reasons passing understanding), Wesley Sneijder, the year 2010, the elusive Decima in the Champions League (which was won 10 years ago - oh the signs! The signs!) etc...

He may be religious, but Mesut seems rather un-superstitious as a rule (a characteristic that your collapsed-Catholic poster wishes she possessed). He declared last year that he didn't care that the number 23 was considered unlucky. Chances are he doesn't know or care about the number 10 either.

Two unlucky numbers in one

And that's all the Mesuty news that's fit to print.

Love, love, love and more love to my beloved [livejournal.com profile] andriy_7, who has been visiting his family, but always took time out for us! Do we deserve [livejournal.com profile] andriy_7? Probably not. Let's just be grateful all the same.
