I want to doodle another 0 there...
Yesterday's win over Rayo Vallecano was quite significant for Mesut. He won his 100th match with Real Madrid! He has now played in 100 winning matches for the club.
But that's not all!
He is also leading in assists for Real Madrid in La Liga.

According to the Real Madrid website, this means he assists every 224 minutes in league competition.
You just knew I'd throw this one in, right?
BUT WAIT! THAT'S STILL NOT ALL!
He is also tied with Lionel Messi for assisting the most goals (4) in La Liga in 2013. Only he's done so in two fewer matches than Messi. (5 as opposed to 7) I'm told that's 0.8 assists a game. And well, yesterday he assisted twice in 12 minutes. So how do you like 'dem apples????
And perhaps the game went off course after those beautiful first 12 minutes, but what's important here is that the day after, Mesut received the praise and recognition we all know he rightly deserves for his many accomplishments. Well done, Mesut!

Date: 2013-02-18 08:55 pm (UTC)I love when Real Madrid posted nice article with bit of video to celebrate something like goal scoring record, assist record, match winning record, etc for their players. Mesut certainly deserves it. Love the picture of sparkling Mesut on the front page of Real Madrid website right now too.
I'm still confused whether Mesut was awarded the assist for Morata's goal yesterday. Cannot tell for sure if Kaka touched it before the ball went to Morata, seems like it's a dummy move by Kaka. Real Madrid also included that goal in the video of Mesut's assist but didn't list it as Mesut's assist.

Date: 2013-02-18 10:06 pm (UTC)And oh no... I had no idea that the first goal's assist may not have been credited to him. I just assumed it was his! I need to do a better job checking my facts before reporting - I'd make a terrible journalist! No wait... maybe not!
I'll see if I can find out and I'll change my post accordingly. :)

Date: 2013-02-19 02:14 am (UTC)I checked a few sources (Goal.com, FoxSoccer, and I think The Guardian) and they all appear to give him the assist. But you're exactly right - Doesn't matter. He made that happen. :)
