Awwww. I respect how level-headed Sami is. He doesn't strike me as the type who just recycles scripted praise over and over again. He gives very thoughtful interviews. Stands in nice contrast to Özil's "Bitch, bring it!" approach. Nah, am certain Özil's said some nice things too somewhere, but I just did one of the painful snorts of barely contained laughter when I saw this tweet. Shame Varane can't play; was looking forward to seeing him defend against Özil's searching runs.
I miss Lass too. How does Kaká afford cabs now that Lass' in Russia??
Am probably gonna run up a few traffic violations in my race to make it home in time for the match if I have to, but in the (likely) event that I have to work overtime am just going to have to settle on following Tumblr on my phone to keep track of things. At least I will be able to watch Holland v Italy on the TV at work, so it's not a total loss :)
LOL Fans over on Benzema's Facebook page are encouraging him to respond to Mesut's "challenge". Somehow I imagine it being an epic standoff of gangsta duck-faced selfies.
Usually never post (hi, everyone!), but I've just got back from the France - Germany match and have to share - Mesut was fantastic. The French fans cheered so loudly for him when his name was announced that you would have thought he played for Les Bleus! He and Sami were definitely the highlight of the match, especially with that goal - it was inevitable and they were delightful to watch.
Benzema, unfortunately, didn't seem very ready...just wasn't his day. It was too cold in the stadium to take pictures, but I can report that Mesut has certainly won over the French!
*waves* Nice to hear from a former lurker! You done did it now. Once you speak you are by law required to maintain sociable skills and partake in our silly ramblings :)
Aww, wished you'd mentioned that you'd be attending the match in person. That we could have attempted to bully, er, I mean, encourage you into snapping tons of pics and making a post about it, regardless of the weather. Still, am happy for you that you got to experience such a fantastic match firsthand!
While he had a rocky start of the season for Real, Özil's really been an unmissable force for die Mannschaft. He didn't play in the friendly against Holland last year and it showed: lack of fluidity and creativity among the Germans (though the Dutch were no more inspired, either). He's Germany's main man, in my opinion. That pass to Khedira was absolutely sublime. And it's safe to say that Özil's one of those rare players who is appreciated and admired regardless of which team you support. I can't count the amount of cules I know (surprisingly, I have more friends who support Barcelona than those who support Real Madrid) who, while unabashed in their loathing of Ronaldo, Mou, Ramos, Pepe, etc. openly admit to liking, if not loving Özil. He definitely lets his skills do the talking, and since said skills are so mesmerizing to watch few can find anything to hold against him.
I feel Khedira doesn't get enough praise, despite the fact that I can't recall having ever heard anyone ever say anything negative about his performances. In that aspect, he's more reliable than Mesut, both for Germany and Real, and whenever he's not playing you immediately notice how vulnerable the midfield looks without him patrolling it. I guess it's because he's not a prolific goal scorer like Ronaldo or Klose, nor a creative, eye-catching player like Özil, that people take him for granted, so when he does nab a bit of spotlight for himself it makes me all the happier. Plus, it was a Samisut goal! Doesn't get any better than that!! :D
Oooooh, Benz :( I was rooting for Germany all the way, but when my commentator pointed out that Benzema hasn't scored for Les Bleus in the past nine (or so) matches I secretly began praying he'd get a goal in. Still wanted Germany to win, but every time Benzema came so close to scoring I gave a little cheer, only for the damn ball to hit the post or go wide. It was just one of those nights, indeed. I wonder whether he'll travel back to Spain with Sami and Mesut, or make the trip alone ...
Side note: Ribery also played a great game, and Adler has hopefully silenced some of his critics. He made some good, solid saves. (I don't understand people who freak out when another goalie is chosen to play over the established #1. The whole point of backup goalies is that they should be able to fill in for the main goalie. Look at the whole Casillas/Adan "controversy". Of course, Iker is Spain's best goalkeeper, but the substitute goalies need to get some playing time too. You can't leave them on the bench the whole time until disaster strikes and then you're stuck with a goalie will little actual playing experience on the team.)
I think most everyone on the pitch played great tonight, with the exception of a couple of French defenders and, much to my dismay, Mario Gomez. He looked frustrated at half time. It's well-known that he's an "emotional player"; that he loses confidence quickly when he makes a mistake and it affects his play, which is a crying shame because when he's on a roll he's a machine. He's already struggling to get a starting role over at Bayern after his injury, and this call-up for the national side (since Euro 2012!) would have been a great opportunity to showcase that he's back to form, but, like Benzema, it just wasn't his night.
Hey! (new member too) Ozil was truly fantastic yesterday, the journalists doing the live reviews of the match were all fanboying over him ( and over his left foot, they were deeply interested in his left foot ^^), it was quite cute. being French I feel quite conflicted about this match, because I wanted Les Bleus to win of course but I had my sweet little revanche on my familly by showing them that Ozil is not some random dude who can do tricks with his chewing gum ^^ I would like to share some review of a French website dedidated to football: So foot which made me laugh: "Ozil ( 8.5/10): For the beauty of his controls on the ball, we forgive Mesut for the shirtless picture he posted on Twitter. For his decisive pass, we forgive him everything until the end of his life. What a wonderful player..."

I'm just gonna plug my post:
