Age: Old enough to know better, young enough to do it anyway.
Location(s): Victoria, BC
Twitter/Tumblr: @JennyJenkins10 / footballingfantasy.tumblr
National Team(s): Germany (men and women) and Canada (women only, the men suck)
Club Team(s): Arsenal, Real Madrid
Favourite players: (among others) Sami Khedira, Cristiano Ronaldo, Santi Cazorla, Per Mertesacker, Lukas Podolski, Olivier Giroud, Louisa Necib, Lira Bajramaj, Birgit Prinz, Christine Sinclair, Diana Matheson, Alexandra Pop, Nadine Angerer, Hope Solo, Oscar, Jack Wilshere, Mikel Arteta, Marcelo
Favourite bromances: Mesut has too many to count - but Samisut and Serzil are my favourite at Madrid and Reusut and Podozil are becoming favourites over in Germany. Also: Giroud and Podolski - who should really just kiss, please and thanks.
2 Of Your Hobbies?
Reading, watching football
2 Favourite Books?
Les Miserables, War & Peace
2 Favourite Movies?
Truly, Madly, Deeply - The Barbarian Invasions
Favourite Music To Listen To?
Opera, Bach.
What was the last book you read and what did you think of it?
John Le Carre's "Constant Gardener" - the film was great, the book is still 10x better.
What was the last movie you watched in a movie theatre and what did you think of it?
Les Miserables. I cried like a child even though it was probably over-produced. I was with a friend and she cried and I'm very
suggestible in movie-theatres.
Favourite Television Show?
Downton Abbey. It's like prop- and costume-porn, okay?
Favourite Fairy Tale as a Child?
"Die Zertanzten Schuhe" ("The Danced-Out Shoes") It's about 12 princesses who sneak out of their castle every night to dance and wear holes into their slippers. The hero falls in love with the youngest, but marries the oldest - a delicacy I always appreciated!
Favourite Sport that is not football and why?
Figure Skating - because it is graceful, requires strength and artistry and because it is beautiful to watch.
Favourite class in high school?
History and English literature
On to the Mesutosity:
Reminiscences: Why are you fan of Mesut's? Do you remember the moment it happened?
I was aware of him - but he killed it in the opening game of the World Cup. We'd had awful friendlies to that point, and I was just so thrilled with that performance. His brilliance against Ghana and THAT performance against England sealed it. He was my die-hard favourite.
Your favourite of Mesut's games (one he really shone in)?
England. He killed it. I always admire him against Barca though - especially over the past 18 months. He really shines in tough games.
Something about Mesut's playing you admire?
The elegance and simplicity and the clarity of thought required. Also, the selflessness. He knows his limits and likes putting his teammates into space.
And Some Silliness:
If you could dress him up and take him out, what would you put on him?
I don't think I'd put anything on him, tbh. I think I would keep him in doors and encourage him to take off his shirt.
If you could ask him a question, what would it be?
"Sami or Sergio - 'fess up!"
Which of Mesut's features are you most anxious they get right in his wax-work at Madame Taussauds in Berlin?
The ears, obviously! I expect them to curl out slightly and dip - in that adorable way that they do. Also: his famous nose. They fail on either of these points and I will be horribly disappointed.
Finish by posting your favourite Mesut picture and telling us why you chose it!
ARRRGGHHH - this is hard. But I'll go with this one:
Now that is what I call melancholy androgyny! No wonder the photographers adore him!

Age: young at heart!
Location(s): Denver, CO
Twitter/Tumblr: @caitiebug78
National Team(s): love to watch both Spain and Germany (mens), and US Women's
Club Team(s): Real Madrid & Chelsea. But I enjoy keeping up with many of them.
Favourite players: You mean, besides our dear Ozil? Pretty much anyone on the RM team, David Villa, Fernando Torres, Reus, Mata, Hazard ... I will have to keep thinking on this one!
Favourite bromances: Serzil! And Benzil - it's so pitiful, it's cute.
2 Of Your Hobbies? reading, exercise
2 Favourite Books? A Song of Fire and Ice series (aka Game of Thrones), and Harry Potter
2 Favourite Movies? Love, Actually and Finding Nemo
What was the last book you read and what did you think of it? I just finished the Keeper of Lost Causes yesterday - very good but completely freaked me out.
What was the last movie you watched in a movie theatre and what did you think of it? The Hobbit, good but waaay too drawn out.
Favourite Television Show? Game of Thrones and Homeland
Favourite Fairy Tale as a Child? Oooh, that's a good one - Sleeping Beauty perhaps?
Favourite Sport that is not football and why? Pointy football, for my poor long-suffering husband.
Favourite class from when you were in high school? Theatre
On to the Mesutosity:
Reminiscences: Why are you fan of Mesut's? Do you remember the moment it happened? Oooh! This is great! Well, I have been a fan of his playing skills since the last world cup. That's the first time I remember being aware of him. However, my "fangirling" began during Real Madrid's great season last year. There is a picture of him with a few of the other players, celebrating winning the Copa del Ray (?) in the locker room with Mesut being shirtless. THAT sealed the deal for me. I will have to try and find the picture online as it was instant love at first ab-sighting!
Which is your favourite of Mesut's games (one he really shone in) and why? Sadly, I can't think of just one at the moment.
Tell us something about Mesut's playing you admire! He is so graceful. I feel at times he almost looks like a dancer!
And Some Silliness:
If you could dress Mesut up and take him out, what would you put on him? UGH! a tuxedo? I would settle for a nice, crew-necked shirt and some jeans with no rips in them, though!
If you could ask him any question, what would it be? I want to ask him if he's really as shy as we think he is!
Which of Mesut's features are you most anxious they get right in his wax-work at Madame Taussaud's in Berlin? I'm with Jenny - the NOSE! It is perfection.
Oh, dear. How do I post a photo? I'm not that tech savvy, ha ha ha. It's not my "favorite" photo per se, but I will have to try and find that photo of M. shirtless that completely did it for me....

Club Team(s): I don't have a favourite, I follow Real Madrid (obviously), but I don't consider myself a madridista
Favourite players: Mesut Özil
Favorite bromance: Benzil
2 Of Your Hobbies? Reading and collecting (anything, main thing is collecting:) mostly photos in themes dear to me)
2 Favourite Books? A certain book about Spanish Queens and.. well, I have a horrible habit of starting several books and never finishing them. So, I read dozens of books (poetry, archeology, I love biographies of artists and historical persons too), and I have favorite fractions and quotes, rather than one certain favorite book.
2 Favourite Movies? Under the Tuscan Sun; The Pianist
Favourite Music To Listen To? It is silly, but I'm really shy about my music taste, I hate to talk about it :/
What was the last book you read and what did you think of it?
A turkish grammar book because I kind of learn turkish (I'm already fluent in german), because it has a soothing effect on me for some hmm... "unknown" reason:)
Favourite Sport that is not football and why? Rhythmic gymnastics. I love any sports where elegance plays a big role.
Favourite class from when you were in high school? History
On to the Mesutosity:
Reminiscences: Why are you fan of Mesut's? Do you remember the moment it happened?
At the WC 2010- Germany vs Argentina with his assist to Klose. Don't know why, I just remember clearly rewatching that assist for like a hundred times :)
Ever since that moment I feel guilty that I didn't manage to discover him way sooner, like in 2007.
Which is your favourite of Mesut's games (one he really shone in) and why?
Real Madrid vs Atlético Madrid; Copa del Rey 2010-11 (home)
His assist to Cristiano in that game is basically my all time fav assist of him. It was so elegant, calm and smart.
Tell us something about Mesut's playing you admire!
Elegance, elegance, elegance. I love to use the hungarian word "kecses" on him ("grazil" in german, graceful).
Also what Adebayor said: "He has a unique way of looking at the game." He is simply an artist. I always mention him when somebody asks about my favorite artists.
And this aura of calmness. One of my favorite comments about him is this german one: "Er ist irgendwie die Ruhe selbst." Calmness personified.
and what Löw said: "Er strahlt sehr sehr viele Ruhe aus."
I know, he is not always like this, he has that really very frustrated side too, but still.
And Some Silliness:
If you could dress Mesut up and take him out, what would you put on him? That Oktoberfest costume, you know what I'm talking about:) and I would wear a female costume of that type.
If you could ask him any question, what would it be?
Secret. No, not a dirty one or anything, just it makes me anxious to write it down, something about his and his family's personal history.
Which of Mesut's features are you most anxious they get right in his wax-work at Madame Taussaud's in Berlin?
His eyes. I don't want them either overdo it or make it less realistic. I love it, when someone pays attention to his eyes, and with "good intentions".
Also his exceptionally beautiful legs. (I'm wondering about the pose, hopefully it won't be that lame thumbs-up:))
Finish by posting your favourite Mesut picture and telling us why you chose it!
The same as yours, Jenny, it is the most beautiful portrait I've ever seen about him.

2 Favourite Movies? Nights of Cabiria and The 400 Blows
Favourite Music To Listen To? Opera and taranta (Italian popular music)
What was the last book you read and what did you think of it? An Italian book about all the scandals in Italian football. It was depressing, it made me want to stop watching calcio
What was the last movie you watched in a movie theatre and what did you think of it? I actually went to watch Titanic in 3D, embarassing, I know, but I'm a girl of the Titanic era
Favourite Television Show? Grey's Anatomy, my guilty pleasure
Favourite Fairy Tale as a Child? The Nutcracker and the Mouse King
Favourite Sport that is not football and why? Formula One, it's not really a sport, but I love Ferrari team
Favourite class from when you were in high school? Greek and Philosophy
On to the Mesutosity:
Reminiscences: Why are you fan of Mesut's? Do you remember the moment it happened? It happened during the match against Ghana. I don't know why, but his joy during the goal celebration hooked me instantly. Later I appreciated his amazing talent and then the mesutiness, but at first it was a matter of pure emotion
Which is your favourite of Mesut's games (one he really shone in) and why? I think last year Copa del Rey at Camp Nou. He was having a difficult time and was being harshly criticized and reacted playing a wonderful match
Tell us something about Mesut's playing you admire! Jenny said it perfectly: the elegance and simplicity. He's like a ballet dancer, everythingh he does seems so easy and effortless
And Some Silliness:
If you could dress Mesut up and take him out, what would you put on him? I too would encourage him to take off his shirt, then I would cook for him
If you could ask him any question, what would it be? Waxing habits? Footballers' dedication to their beauty regimes always surprises me
Which of Mesut's features are you most anxious they get right in his wax-work at Madame Taussaud's in Berlin? The ears, no doubt!
Finish by posting your favourite Mesut picture and telling us why you chose it!
Do I really have to explain why I chose this one? ;)

I have been reading about Calcio (History of) - especially Lazio in the '70s (shooting up jewellery stores - and each other - they carried guns!). Horrendously funny - like, larger than life!

National Team(s): Germany, US women, South Africa, Ghana, and the Dutch are nice to look at (plus they have the best fans)
Club Team(s): Chelsea, Real Madrid
Favourite players: Messi, Alex Morgan, Kaka, Miro, Drogba, Mata, Ballack, Sami, Schweini, basically all ze Germans, Zlatan is fun to watch, Lucas Piazon is my new slightly age-inappropriate crush, and Fernando Torres sang well in Les Mis (but as a Chelsea supporter of course I am dissappointed in him)
Favourite bromances: Serzil is too cute. And Samisut. Also Reuzil because they are so cute and boyish.
2 Of Your Hobbies? Ultimate frisbee, crochet
2 Favourite Books? Only two? I'll go with Cry, the Beloved Country and my childhood favourite, The Dark is Rising
2 Favourite Movies? V for Vendetta and the Avengers
Favourite Music To Listen To? Indie rock
What was the last book you read and what did you think of it? Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter - well, that was one way to get me to read his biography I guess
What was the last movie you watched in a movie theatre and what did you think of it? Les Mis - good but I kept giggling at serious parts because Eddie Redmayne is Fernando Torres' doppleganger
Favourite Television Show? Firefly!
Favourite Fairy Tale as a Child? Pinnochio
Favourite Sport that is not football and why? Ultimate frisbee. It's basically my life.
Favourite class from when you were in high school? Math
On to the Mesutosity:
Reminiscences: Why are you fan of Mesut's? Do you remember the moment it happened? Fell in love with his playing at WC 2010, and sometime early this year I had a double-take moment where 'weird-looking' suddenly became 'really really attractive'
Which is your favourite of Mesut's games (one he really shone in) and why? The thrashing of Argentina is my go-to feel-good game. Although I had more eyes for Schweini at the time, Mesut was also outstanding in that game.
Tell us something about Mesut's playing you admire! His field vision is incredible. If I had that, I'd be playing ultimate at Worlds. So jealous...
And Some Silliness:
If you could dress Mesut up and take him out, what would you put on him? We would wear each other's clothes and make all the lesbians super jealous (we have roughly the same colouration and hair length, and I basically look like a boy so we might end up looking like brothers but it'd be worth a shot). I have a pair of black skinny jeans that would probably be the only thing long enough for him, he could wear the one v-neck shirt I have that might be broad enough for him and of course accessorize with something from my scarf collection. I'd wear one of those plaid-type shirts of his that always look too small for him, whichever jeans of his don't have atrociously contrasting stitching, and that grey scarf. Which I might not give back ever.
If you could ask him any question, what would it be? How do you see
those absolutely sublime passes? Share the genius!
Which of Mesut's features are you most anxious they get right in his wax-work at Madame Taussaud's in Berlin? He has so many moles... I hope they get those right.
I'm too lazy right now to learn how to post a picture in a comment.

Which is your favourite of Mesut's games (one he really shone in) and why? I love this season's free kicks, but has to be all the matches in 2010 and 2011 when no one really noticed all he was doing to make it happen. Just YouTube search assists

Age: thirty-skdjfiosdfsdfskl;djkd
Location(s): Virginia, US
Twitter/Tumblr: @conflicted48 (My account's locked to keep nosy family away - LOL. But you can send a request any time!) justpitchy.tumblr (mostly reblogged pics of Mesut, plus some BVB, Klopp, Germany NT, and a few others if I find the picture interesting!)
National Team(s): Germany is my #1, but I also supported Poland in the Euro. They're new for me. :) And of course I support the US in all competitions (to go as far as possible) men's and women's, and La Vinotinto (Venezuela)
Club Team(s): The best way I can put it... I love Barcelona like a family, I love Real Madrid like a lover, but Dortmund has up and stolen my heart! Echte liebe!
Favourite players: Mesut (of course), Iniesta (a close second), Lewandowski, Reus, Götze, Khedira, Benzema, Kaka, Klose, Lahm, Xavi, Messi, Hummels, Kuba, Arango, Dempsey, Alex Morgan, Hope Solo... I feel like I could go on and on...
Favourite bromances: Götze/Reus (Götzeus), and anytime Lewy gets in there for the threesome... My Mesut ones listed below.
2 Of Your Hobbies? CrossFit (a strength and conditioning exercise program) and writing (mostly blog-type writing) and of course, collecting pictures!
2 Favourite Books? The Glass Castle by Jeannette Walls and The Prince of Tides by Pat Conroy
2 Favourite Movies? The Outsiders (my first time ever noticing "hot men"! Plus, it was just such a great movie!) and Walk the Line (the story of Johnny Cash) but I really also want to put The Sound of Music
Favourite Music To Listen To? I believe the term is "alternative folk" or "folk rock"... Primarily Brandi Carlile and Mumford and Sons
What was the last book you read and what did you think of it? I am currently rereading Pat Conroy's memoir titled My Losing Season. I actually wrote a blog entry partly pertaining to this book and tied it in with my favorite goal of Mesut's (Dortmund free-kick)! It also explains a lot about me. :) If you'd like to read it here it is. :) http://justpitchy.wordpress.com/2012/11/12/be-still-my-bleeding-heart/
What was the last movie you watched in a movie theatre and what did you think of it? Ok, don't judge. Twilight Part 4. I thought it was silly. I laughed a lot.
Favourite Television Show? What Not to Wear because although I'm constantly picking on Mesut's fashion choices, I have no idea how to dress myself. So I watch that show and take notes. Plus, Clinton Kelly has got to be one of my most favorite people on earth. He's HILARIOUS. And if you can make me laugh, you're a friend for life! :)
Favourite Fairy Tale as a Child? Hansel and Gretel - Granted, it scared the shit out of me when I was little. But I always loved the little German outfits they wore in the pictures. Even back then I was attracted to all things German! (and pictures!)
Favourite Sport that is not football and why? Field hockey. I played through college, I coach my daughter's team which is SO MUCH FUN, and even play myself every now and then. Being an athlete was such a huge part of my youth, I feel young again and like I'm in my element when step out onto a pitch.
Favourite class in high school? Somehow it's a tie between English, PE and Sports Marketing. BUT in college, it was sociology! I LOVE to study people's behaviors in community settings! Which is probably why I'm here! :D
Part 2 OY
Date: 2013-01-12 02:41 am (UTC)Reminiscences: Why are you fan of Mesut's? Do you remember the moment it happened? So, I remember the first time I saw him. I believe it was the Spain vs Germany game in the WC 2010. My hubby and I were naming dopplegangers for everyone and when he came on the screen G said, "Stewie" from Family Guy. :( It hurts my heart to admit I agreed! That was the only time I saw him play in the WC because we were a Spain-only family back then. BUT, I do remember the moment I fell in love with him. It was in a Liga game, shortly after the 5-0 clasico... probably early January. And he was just doing so many amazing things (likely, his beautiful passes) in that game that I kept saying, "Who IS that guy?!" and then Ray Hudson proceeded to gush all over him for the remainder of the match. And I was like, "Man! Do I know how to pick them or what?" I wish I had an exact game but it's too far back now to remember. The next day, I typed his name into google and came across this picture. I was gone from that moment on.
What's your favourite Mesut bromance(s)? Samisut followed closely by Reuzil (Reus)
Your favourite of Mesut's games (one he really shone in)? Thanks to Jenny for the help... I knew it was a clasico I just didn't remember which one. "Copa del Rey second leg quarter-final (away) 2011-12 (Played January of 2012)" What I do remember was that he gave Abidal LOADS of trouble and beat him just about every time. Mind you, I think Abidal is one of my all-time favorite defenders. I think he's excellent. So it only made Mesut look that much more stellar. I also recall one of the most gorgeous shots I've seen him take...
unfortunately, it hit the crossbar. :( He also had a beautiful assist for Ronaldo's goal. I just remember being THRILLED that he had such a fabulous game after so much crap had been said about him not showing up in clasicos (and a rough start to the season).
Something about Mesut's playing you admire? His final pass that leads to a goal. When they are truly exceptional and defy all reason, I shake with admiration.
And Some Silliness:
If you could dress him up and take him out, what would you put on him? I'm not a very fancy person, so I'd put on a white button-up shirt (open so I can see his neck and clavicle of course!), a NICE pair of dark jeans (not the ones with the holes that he's always wearing), a dark blue/black blazer, and his black Nikes with the white soles. OMG he's so cute.
If you could ask him any question, what would it be? I want to know... What do you do with the smelly, sweaty jerseys you've swapped with the other players? Do you wash them and keep them? Hang them somewhere? Give them away? I also want to know what size boot he wears. I don't know why... o.O
Which of Mesut's features are you most anxious they get right in his wax-work at Madame Taussaud's in Berlin? His legs of course! They better be damn near perfect because I'll likely get to touch those before I touch his! LOL
Finish by posting your favourite Mesut picture and telling us why you chose it!
I had at least 50 I could choose from before I saw this one...
But when I saw it I stopped breathing. And it doesn't even show his beautiful face or gorgeous physique! But it is sexy beyond words... and yet speaks volumes about him I think. I could go on.. and on... and on... about this pic!

Name/Nickname: Char (short for Charlotte)
Age: 23 years old (almost 24 on february 5th)
Location(s): Belgium!
Twitter/Tumblr: No twitter, but I do have a Real Madrid tumblr: fyeahreal (http://fyeahreal.tumblr.com/)
National Team(s): Belgium NT! With the talented generation that has emerged in recent years, we've actually got something to be proud of again, football-wise. 2nd place would be for Portugal.
Club Team(s): Real Madrid! In the ELP I support Chelsea, but I wouldn't consider myself a blue.
Favourite players (aka a small selection because the list is endless): Mesut (obvs), Cristiano, Marcelo, San Iker, Eden Hazard, Courtois, Kevin de Bruyne, Neymar and Giroud. My favorite player of all time is Zidane.
Favourite bromances: Crözil & Serzil. Ship it like burning ;)
2 Of Your Hobbies? Other than watching football, being creative (drawing, writing, editting) and reading. I know, all very active hobbies XD
2 Favourite Books? NOOOO don't ask me this! ACK! Okay, I really like Le Petit Prince. I've also been deeply moved by the books of Markus Zusak. That man's a genius, and his books are definitly not just for young adults.
2 Favourite Movies? Super clichéd, but anything by Tarantino. Gegen die Wand is my favorite German movie, Blind is my favorite Belgian movie.
Favourite Music To Listen To? My music taste could be described as "shit everyone else (likely) hates".
What was the last book you read and what did you think of it? The last book I (re-) read was American Gods by Neil Gaiman, and I still loved it every bit as much as the first time.
What was the last movie you watched in a movie theatre and what did you think of it? The Hobbit! It was great.
Favourite Television Show? Tie between Game of Thrones and American Horror Story.
Favourite Fairy Tale as a Child? The Little Mermaid & Peter Pan
Favourite Sport that is not football and why? Horseback riding! Because I rode horses on a semi-professional level before I got sick :)
Favourite class from when you were in high school? History.
On to the Mesutosity:
Reminiscences: Why are you fan of Mesut's? I can't remember when it happened, but I know I fell in love with his style of play. Like Cristiano, I think he plays very "attractive" football. It's entertaining to watch and often leaves you in awe of his skill (well, me anyway). Not just the way he moves the ball around the field, though, but also his presence. I think Mesut has a very calm, very reassuring energy about him. A certain quiet intensity, if you will, and I like that a lot.
Which is your favourite of Mesut's games (one he really shone in) and why? It's hard for me to remember specific games. I think he's pretty consistent in his play, for his NT even moreso than for Real.
Tell us something about Mesut's playing you admire! His vision and calm, most definitely.
And Some Silliness:
If you could dress Mesut up and take him out, what would you put on him? I think Mesut's one of the few Real Madrid players capable of actually dressing himself well, so. Although you know what they say about less being more ;)
If you could ask him any question, what would it be? I'd be pretty boring and ask him about his values - in life and football.
Which of Mesut's features are you most anxious they get right in his wax-work at Madame Taussaud's in Berlin? Ears! and eyes.
Finish by posting your favourite Mesut picture and telling us why you chose it!
Not because it's such a special or spectacular picture of him (I dare say there are even better pictures out there of him praying) but because this is always such an important moment for him, and while I'm not religious myself I can admire such devotion and faith.
I'm also doing a thesis on religion & football, so I may have been looking at pictures like these for too long already lol. Oh well!no subject

Tumblr: My social networking has little to do with Football, so it would be useless here. I do have a tumblr for art stuff, but I don't update frequently these days. If you want a peek: http://aclaireview.tumblr.com/
National Team(s): Germany and Spain and Japan's Women's team.
Club Team(s): Real Madrid and Borussia Dortmund. I also really enjoy watching Barcelona. *ducks*
Favourite players: That's a long list. Some legends. Some new. Fairly consistently they are creative midfield players. I'll leave it at Mesut. :P
Favourite bromances: Serzil, because it ships itself, Samisut for being tried and true, and Reuzil for being two peas in a pod.
2 Hobbies: Art (drawing/painting/sewing/crafting) and I was a classically trained dancer(ballet) for about 12 years until an injury. Now I just dance for fun and leisure.
2 Favourite Books: I'm a bookworm. I'll say Ender's Game and Harry Potter. Does Harry Potter count as one?
2 Favourite Movies: Spirited Away and Run Lola Run.
Favourite Music: Anything but Country. Chamber music, a cappella groups, strings, guitar, rock, electronica. Lots of Jrock and Kpop in the last handful of years.
What was the last book you read? The Fault in Our Stars by John Green. It was brilliant, funny, tragic, and I cried through 70% of it.
What was the last movie you watched in a movie theatre and what did you think of it? The Hunger Games... I think? The first half was one of the most accurate book to screen adaptations I've seen. The second half, not so much. I still liked it.
Favourite TV Show: I hardly watch TV anymore. Sherlock, So You Think You Can Dance, The Daily Show, Star Trek reruns?
Favourite Fairy Tale: I had a sumptuously illustrated version of The Sleeping Beauty during childhood that left an impact. Otherwise, I had a thing for the Legend of Sleepy Hollow/Headless Horseman.
Favourite Sport that is not football and why? Does dancing count? Hmmm, gymnastics maybe? Rhythmic gymnastics is the closest to ballet and that's my thang.
Favourite class: Art.
Picture first, because my post got too long and seeing Mesut pictures is what really matters!
I'll forgo perviness for this one. It's all candid and cute and I can't stop smiling.

Date: 2013-01-12 03:08 am (UTC)Are long rambling versions acceptable?
As an American without sports channels, following soccer is a real struggle, so I take advantage in World cup years when it's actually available on TV. I was determined to watch every game in 2010. I didn't have an allegiance to any team and had been totally out-of-the-loop for many years, so I went in as a blank slate. Germany was one of the first games I watched and I really liked their passing. I noticed that lots of their plays were going through this one guy that struck me as moving beautifully. From his calm movement and thoughtful plays, I assumed he was some older veteran player that I had never heard of. It wasn't until later in the game when the camera zoomed in on him that I realized he was young. I continued to be mesmerized by the lovely fellow with the odd name for the rest of the Cup and was bummed that Germany didn't win.
Then I went back to not having chances to watch football and forgot about him.
Near the end of 2011, Fox Sports Channel suddenly showed up on my TV. Soccer on TV! Woooo! Watched every chance I got and soon there was a Real Madrid game. I was pleased to see that there was a player on the team that moved exceptionally beautifully, reminding me of that German player with the odd name, which I couldn't remember. Then there was a zoom-in. Özil! IT'S THE SAME GUY! AAAHHHHHH! HE PLAYS FOR REAL MADRID! Finally got on the internets and looked him up, finding dozens of fan compilation videos of him playing. Just gorgeous. Fangirl 4 lyfe!
I know lots of folks praise him for seeming graceful or elegant. I spend a lot of time dwelling on this. Indulge me. As a dancer, body control, line, and proportion are paramount. We are conditioned to recognize when body-lines work and when they don't. We go as far as to be critical of the placement of pinky fingers. This kind of body awareness is engrained in us in a way that is not shared by the general population. I recognized it in Mesut immediately. It won't do any good to go on about this, but suffice it to say, there are reasons why he looks as beautiful as he does when he's moving. He obviously works very hard and has practiced most of his life, but the prettiness is innate and extraordinary and I've never seen another player that came close to it. He would have made an incredible dancer. Truly. I'm happy to settle for an incredible looking footballer. ^^
TL;DR - From the perspective of a dancer, Mesut's movement is genuinely beautiful, for reasons directly related to dance and ideal proportions. I could go on about this for ages.
Favorite Mesut Game: All of them? I always love watching him, so he always shines. Even on a bad day.
Mesut's playing: See the above rambling for the primary admiration. I also appreciate his generosity and selflessness. The overall score and teamwork are more important to him than his own stats. I really dig that. Tactically: Somehow he notices available plays that I would imagine require a bird's eye view to see. But he sees them and I don't know how he does it. It's so satisfying when he makes those plays.
Dressing Mesut: I'm with Jenny about keeping him indoors. Lol! But that's because I don't like going out myself. I'd keep him home, in comfy sweats/pajamas, and play video games or backgammon all day. That's how I roll.
Mesut Question: IRL I would never do this, but I would like to know how much crap he has gotten for his bug-eyes throughout his life and if it bothers him. That seems like the kind of thing that little kids would tease him for relentlessly on the playground. And even as an adult, most of his nicknames are related to his huge eyes. They're such an important feature. I just wonder if it gets to him or if he has totally embraced it at this point.
Which of Mesut's features are you most anxious they get right in his wax-work at Madame Taussaud's in Berlin? Tied into the last question... his eyes. The eyes tend to look kind of creepy on these things by default. I can't help but worry for him. Lol. I love his eyes dearly, by the way. I never found him to be anything but attractive. The art history geek in me gets swoony over Mesut's face for so many reasons. I won't even start!
I feel as though I have written an essay. Apologies!

Age: a prime number!
Location(s): TDot
Twitter/Tumblr: tinylittle_judy / magicozil.tumblr.com
National Team(s): Germany
Club Team(s): Real Madrid, primarily. Though I used to follow Bayern (just not as much now)
Favourite players: Aside from our darling Mesut, Klose, Reus, Podolski, C Ronaldo, Zidane, Ramos, Marcelo, and Mertesaker are among the favourites
Favourite bromances: One of the world's most challenging questions, this is. I am quite fond of all of Mesut's bromances, regardless of how fickle he can be and Schweinski needs to be mentioned here
2 Of Your Hobbies?
2 Favourite Books? Ken Folett's books are wonderful (especially Whitout and The Third Twin) and Margaret Atwood's Oryx and Crake (I'm moving on to a Year of the Flood very soon!). I am such a dork for statistics and history, so if a book has both, I will, most likely, be in love with it.
2 Favourite Movies? Shawshank Redemption, the Lord of the Rings trilogy.
Favourite Music To Listen To? Right now I'm in a huge phase for soundtracks. Other than that, alt, alt rock, and electronica are my thing
What was the last book you read and what did you think of it? Heart of Darkness by Joseph Conrad. It was one of the most dense books I've read. I totally expected to be done in an hour and half but it actually took me around 3.
What was the last movie you watched in a movie theatre and what did you think of it? Les Miserables. People need to stop mispronouncing it!!!! I really tried to not cry, and I completely failed at it. The cinematography was kind of a mess and the singing wasn't the best, but I enjoyed it quite a lot. And I'm still confused as to Anne Hathaway being nominated for best supporting actress for showing up for less than 20 minutes.
Favourite Television Show? 24, and now BBC's Sherlock
Favourite Fairy Tale as a Child? Hansel and Gretel.
Favourite Sport that is not football and why? just one?! I can't pick! Outside of football, I watch tennis (I can't play that to save my life), diving (gynmastics! in the air! into the water!), and figure skating(its elegance makes me weep at my own clumsiness).
Favourite class from when you were in high school? Economics
On to the Mesutosity:
Reminiscences: Why are you fan of Mesut's? Do you remember the moment it happened? It was really the WC that I was exposed to Mesut. At first my friend and I joked around about his Nemo-like eyes. What really sucked me in was his glee after scoring against Ghana. It made it clear to me that he was going to go far.
Which is your favourite of Mesut's games (one he really shone in) and why? April's clasico and the friendly against the Netherlands back in 2011. The former: his toughness in a (relative) small body. His assist was amazing. I guess it was so simple, so direct that got to me. The latter: it was an overall wonderful game for everyone. His participation made the midfield much aesthetically pleasing. (oh and they won as well)
Tell us something about Mesut's playing you admire! His elegance throughout the pitch and his ability to glide in and out of spaces. What really drew me in was his wholeheartedness towards playing football. It's also adorable how he can look so confident and intense on the pitch but when he comes off he's right back to being a meek and shy person.
And Some Silliness:
If you could dress Mesut up and take him out, what would you put on him? I'm one of those girls who love him in formal wear. What he wore to the Bambi Awards would be perfect. (That grey outfit with Anna Maria is a close second)
If you could ask him any question, what would it be? If you wanted to get away from everything, where would you go?
Which of Mesut's features are you most anxious they get right in his wax-work at Madame Taussaud's in Berlin? the community's name sake. and I'm secretly hoping they'll make his eyelashes as beautifully as they are right now. Also, I'm curious as to what hairstyle they'll give wax-Mesut.
picture? anything of shy Mesut are the most endearing to me.

What was the last book you read and what did you think of it? I re-read Sorcerer's Stone (for this Trivia event my friends and I signed up for) and loved it.
What was the last movie you watched in a movie theatre and what did you think of it? The Life of Pi. It was an incredible story and the cinematography was beautiful. if you didn't watch it, go watch it in 3d, it was like a very beautiful dream.
Favourite Television Show? How I met Your Mother & Top Chef
Favourite Fairy Tale as a Child? Beauty & the Beast
Favourite Sport that is not football and why? Baseball and Football Americano (I grew with as the only girl in my age group with a bunch of guys; sports was a way to bond)
Favourite class from when you were in high school? History
On to the Mesutosity:
Reminiscences: Why are you fan of Mesut's? Do you remember the moment it happened? I've seen Mesut before, the first time was 2006 WC but i never paid him any attention. but idk what happened during Euro2012 portugal vs. germany game, I felt the urge to google him and learn everything about him and thats how i found this site. The more i learned about him, the more I fell in love.
Which is your favourite of Mesut's games (one he really shone in) and why? the Champions League game against Borussia Dortmund, where Mesut stepped up and took the free kick to give Real Madrid the tie. I loved that game and that moment because so much was riding on the line and Mesut took the responsibility of taking such a big shot and remained cool under pressure and delivered the goal.
Tell us something about Mesut's playing you admire! I admire his attitude. I feel like the journalists don't appreciate him enough and he's a very underrated player (just look at his assists), he often gets looked over for other big name players. But he never complains, or throws fits, and works hard and is one of the best footballers in the world right now.
And Some Silliness:
If you could dress Mesut up and take him out, what would you put on him? I would probably put him in something he's comfortable in like a white v-neck with jeans, sneakers, and his yankees (i'm a fan) hat.
If you could ask him any question, what would it be? do you and srgio do sleepovers and can i be invited to them?
Which of Mesut's features are you most anxious they get right in his wax-work at Madame Taussaud's in Berlin? His ears!(it took me the longest time to figure out why this community was called crinkly ears.) and his eyelashes.

"Good Omens" and "Wicked"
2 Favourite Movies?
The Lord Of The Rings trilogy + Se7en
Favourite Music To Listen To?
Pretty much anything. Depends on my mood.
What was the last book you read and what did you think of it?
"Rosencrantz and Guildenstern Are Dead" by Tom Stoppard
Read this back in high school, but recently bought my own copy. It takes two existing minor characters from Shakespeare's Hamlet and re-imagines their side of the story.
What was the last movie you watched in a movie theatre and what did you think of it?
"Playing For Keeps", and I think Gerard Butler ought to oil up his pecs and pull on that loincloth again because romantic "comedies" are just not working out for him.
Favourite Television Show?
OZ
Favourite Fairy Tale as a Child?
Chicken Little
Favourite Sport that is not football and why?
Tennis, because Raphael Nadal and Roger Federer.
Favourite class from when you were in high school?
English and History
On to the Mesutosity:
Reminiscences: Why are you fan of Mesut's? Do you remember the moment it happened?
First noticed Mesut back at World Cup 2010 against England, but I was too preoccupied with Holland. "Re-noticed" Özil in their match against Greece at Euro 2012, but it wasn't until the semi-final against Italy that I fell for him because he fought till the end. Afterwards he looked so tired and dejected sitting on the grass and I actually CRIED. He had worked so hard it moved me to tears :(
Which is your favourite of Mesut's games (one he really shone in) and why?
England. I do actually have a strong love for England, except when it comes to their attitude towards football and the Germans. Every Euro and World Cup comes around and the English tabloids immediately pull out the WWII/Nazi Germany jokes and bring up 1966 every chance they get. Hell, even the Dutch have a kinder view of the Germans and they actually DID invade us! Before the match, despite England having been woefully unimpressive in their group, Lineker & Co. still dismissed the Germans.
Oooooh, it felt so good to see Germany send them packing, and Özil played a big part in that. His sprint past Barry was one of the defining moments of World Cup 2010 for me.
Tell us something about Mesut's playing you admire!
I love the way he runs. At times it looks like he's actually running on his toes, and he has this skipping/hopping thing he does when stalling a run with the ball while trying to determine his next move. People make a big deal about how he rarely plays the full 90 minutes, but he's so tired near the end because he is CONSTANTLY moving. Other players take the time to catch their breath by walking when they're not near the immediate action, but Özil is always jogging no matter where the ball is.
And Some Silliness:
If you could dress Mesut up and take him out, what would you put on him?
Swim trunks. We probably would be barred from several establishments, though ... Oh well. Guess we'd just stay home then ~_^
If you could ask him any question, what would it be?
"How the hell do you and Sergio communicate??" (Anglogermspanyol?)
Which of Mesut's features are you most anxious they get right in his wax-work at Madame Taussaud's in Berlin?
His eyes. I just keep getting horror flashes of it turning out to look like Steve Buscemi in a kit.
Finish by posting your favourite Mesut picture and telling us why you chose it!
Eyes. Ears. Lips. Hair. Perfect combination and angle. He just looks so innocent here.

On to the Mesutosity:
Reminiscences: Why are you fan of Mesut's? Do you remember the moment it happened? It happened during WC 2010 , I was rooting for Argentina and suddenly that incredible young German Team humiliated Argentina I suffered a lot but I knew they deserved to win because they were better, so suddenly my commentators were praising Mesut a lot during the game and I just thought to myself who is that guy ? Why is he getting so much attention and praising? and I paid attention to his movements during the game and he caught my eye from that moment on. Then he joined my favorite Football club Real Madrid and my admiration and respect for such a talented player began
Which is your favourite of Mesut's games (one he really shone in) and why? All the matches against FC Barcelona have been absolutely remarkable. He plays without any pressure against them so free and creative, he really displays all his magic against them and many Barca fans know it and respect him for that.
Tell us something about Mesut's playing you admire! His ability to give that pass at the right moment and his vision of the game. He can see things that nobody else can see. A few players in the world have that ability, Pirlo for example has that vision.
And Some Silliness:
If you could dress Mesut up and take him out, what would you put on him? Dunno hard question! I am not a fashion girl, let's say just a pair of jeans that fit him and a shirt are ok for me.
If you could ask him any question, what would it be? What makes him really happy and what makes him really sad
Which of Mesut's features are you most anxious they get right in his wax-work at Madame Taussaud's in Berlin? Someone else mentioned it before but I would like to see his moles...I love them .
Finish by posting your favourite Mesut picture and telling us why you chose it!
Why I love this pic for I can see things I like here: his hands, his moles, his nose, his ears....omg....hahaha...Im fangirling right now forgive me!

National Team(s): La Roja&Die Mannschaft are my two main ones, while I also watch Les Bleus, Three Lions, Azzurri and La Celeste. I LOVE USWNT, and (not so) secretly I root for USMNT too, because it's 'Murica~!
Club Team(s):Los Blancos&Gunners, stalking Bayern & Shalke because of die mannschaft purposes, and also AS Roma because I have a crush on DDR ;__;
Favourite players: Mesut!(duh lol),his beautiful flawless Sami, the passionate, magnificent stallion Sergio, the chatty funny Argentinean forward Pipita, the sainty, hair losing captain Iker, the forever classy boss of midfield Xabi, I just love everyone from Real Madrid and Arsenal (the leader in puffy coat, the young, talented English lads, Girouski~~, Lego hair Miki, Santi Clause, Perfect Per etc. ya everyone), and the rest of the boys of la roja (you're excused Xavi) and die mannschaft. And then all the ladies of USWNT <3
Favourite bromances: Samisut (the one, the only), Serzil (it’s hard not to ship when the both of them ship it themselves), Sersamisut (the more the merrier?), Benzil (poor Kitty :<), Schweinski (how can you not?!), Girouski (because it’s true), Pipita x everyone, hmm that’s all I can think of for now…

Favourite Television Show? Parks and Recreation! It’s such a cheery show that I feel optimistic about my life lol.
Favourite Fairy Tale as a Child? Thumbelina
Favourite Sport that is not football and why? Skateboarding/Longboarding, because it’s what my boyfriend does and I was a rebel punk in high school that always wanted to learn skateboarding.

Re: welp too many characters...
Date: 2013-01-12 08:16 am (UTC)Reminiscences: Why are you fan of Mesut's? Do you remember the moment it happened? I’m a fan because Mesut means happy, and that’s exactly how he makes me feel whenever he works his magic on the field, bromancing around, and taking lol-worthy selcas and putting them on facebook. I remembered Mesut’s name after WC 2010 but I wasn’t into club football yet, I was just into international tournaments, but his name always remained in my head and when I decided to be a Madridista it was because Mesut was/is playing for Real Madrid.
Which is your favourite of Mesut's games (one he really shone in) and why? I feel like I haven’t watched enough football to pin point one favorite game yet. I will always like last season’s 2-1 clasico though, it was just a good game where Mesut’s midfield magic shined and everyone else did brilliant too.
Tell us something about Mesut's playing you admire! I just love seeing him in action, running around creating chances and beautiful passes, so I’d say it’s his passes/free kicks.
And Some Silliness:
If you could dress Mesut up and take him out, what would you put on him? Since it’s winter I’d like to dress him in a nice, black peacoat, slim jeans, and chuck taylors, basically not anything from Iker or Sergio’s closet… or Karim’s undies… -___-
If you could ask him any question, what would it be? Can you teach me how to cook some of the dishes you like to cook?
Which of Mesut's features are you most anxious they get right in his wax-work at Madame Taussaud's in Berlin? EYES! I mean, they really have to get it right or else…

2 Favourite Movies?

Favourite Music To Listen To?
Depends on my mood
What was the last book you read and what did you think of it?
The Hobbit -- sassy Gandalf is the best, but Tolkien unfortunately never got the hang of characterization
What was the last movie you watched in a movie theatre and what did you think of it?
Jesus loves me -- a beautiful, beautiful German movie in which Jesus comes down to earth to prepare the apocalypse and falls in love with the rebirth of Maria Magdalena. Really, nearly everything about this movie is perfect.
Favourite Television Show?
Um ... right now? Elementary. But wait till SHIELD is out, then all bets are off.
Favourite Fairy Tale as a Child?
King Thrushbeard (it's still my favorite)
Favourite Sport that is not football and why?
It's a tie between Formula 1 and figure skating. Speed versus grace ^^.
Favourite class from when you were in high school?
English and History
On to the Mesutosity:
Reminiscences: Why are you fan of Mesut's? Do you remember the moment it happened?
Nope. According to my tweets it started sometime in the fall of '11, and somehow nobody stopped me! As to why I'm a fan ... it's rather difficult to put in words. It's a package deal -- also, this lovely comm helped a lot ^^
Which is your favourite of Mesut's games (one he really shone in) and why?
Oh dear, I really don't remember games because he shone in them. However, I vividly remember the Greece game during the last Euros (not only because I went to a Public Viewing -- which someday will most certainly kill me). The Greeks had so much trouble with him they resorted to fouling him twice, and then Sami came running and yelled at Greeks players twice on behalf of Mesut ... yes, I might be a tad bit obsessed with Samisut. *whistles*
Tell us something about Mesut's playing you admire!
The passes! Pure genius sometimes. And it's always a bit hilarious to see how flabbergasted his fellow NT players are that the ball actually came through.
And Some Silliness:
If you could dress Mesut up and take him out, what would you put on him?
Um ... whatever he feels comfortable in? Although I wouldn't mind if he dressed in something with long sleeves which he than can proceed to pull halfway over his hands. I love that look.
If you could ask him any question, what would it be?
How was living with Sami?
Which of Mesut's features are you most anxious they get right in his wax-work at Madame Taussaud's in Berlin?
I have no idea. I'll giggle, no matter what, when I'll stand next to it.
Finish by posting your favourite Mesut picture and telling us why you chose it!
(it does count, right? It's my cellphone background) I love everything about this picture. How close Samisut are, the posture, the capri pants ...

2 Favourite Movies? The Departed, Die fetten Jahre sind vorbei
What was the last book you read and what did you think of it? I read Rowling’s new novel, but kept waiting for Harry and Hermione to show up, so couldn’t finish it. After that I started reading “Things fall apart” by Chinua Achebe, but haven’t finished it yet.
What was the last movie you watched in a movie theatre and what did you think of it? The Hobbit. It was OK.
Favourite Television Show? Scrubs
Favourite Fairy Tale as a Child? not a fairy tale, but I liked Das Doppelte Lottchen by Erich Kästner.
Favourite Sport that is not football and why? Badminton, because it’s a sport I am actually good (ish) at.
Favourite class from when you were in high school? English.
On to the Mesutosity:
Reminiscences: Why are you fan of Mesut's? Do you remember the moment it happened?
I was a fan of Werder Bremen, so I was overjoyed when he not only lived up to the “new Diego” expectations, but was actually better than Diego. then he did that rap with Jan Delay, so I started particularly liking him. then the world cup happened and – well.
Which is your favourite of Mesut's games (one he really shone in) and why?
England, WC 2010. And Argentina. He was fearless, intelligent, happy, energetic, all over the place. That assist to Klose, that other assist to Müller – oh my god.
Tell us something about Mesut's playing you admire!
Mannschaftsdienlichkeit. Wonderful German word that I don’t know the translation of. His game is just selfless. He shines by letting others shine. I admire that. Also, obviously, his passing. The stuff he sees on the pitch I can’t even make out on a youtube highlight video.
And Some Silliness:
If you could dress Mesut up and take him out, what would you put on him? ummm… we’d go for a Döner Kebab, I’d make him wear a Bremen Jersey.
If you could ask him any question, what would it be? I am not sure I’d ever really want to talk to him, honestly. Maybe I’d ask him about his favorite TV show as a kid or something random like that, to throw him off a little and keep him from giving he his usual bullshit like “the coach trusts me and that’s all I care about!” :-)
Which of Mesut's features are you most anxious they get right in his wax-work at Madame Taussaud's in Berlin? His haircut , his eyes, his humble facial expression.
favorite picture: not a picture, but a video. I chose it because... just watch it. there's no way of explaining it. for me the video is the definition of the Özil phenomenon:

Reminiscences: Why are you fan of Mesut's? Do you remember the moment it happened? I love the way he plays, it's beautiful. I think I fell in love with his play the first time I saw him play for Real Madrid (I don't follow Bundesliga or international tournaments)
Which is your favourite of Mesut's games (one he really shone in) and why? I don't remember who we were playing against, but it definitely was a RM game. I remember him making a beautiful, absolutely brilliant backheel pass, he like twirled 180 degrees and kicked the ball with his heel and I think it was Cris who got the pass, I'm not even sure, but it was a goal. And now I feel bad because I have forgotten which game it was, lol. It was in his first season in RM tho, I'm quite sure.
Tell us something about Mesut's playing you admire! The way it looks so easy, the way he creates there amazing chances for others. That's beautiful football for me, not the tiki-taka Barca plays or whatever the common opinion is these days.
