Why calamitous? Because there are three major/dire/disastrous/horrendous consequences of this switch that I can see straight off!
Damn it - at least his legs are as splendid as ever.
1. Homewrecking & Romantic Spoilsportism!
Yes that's right. No more advertisements with Nike's glamour girl, Lira Bajramaj. Need I remind you of the loveliness of their lovely ad? (All things Lira are bright and beautiful, of course!)
Of their quite obvious chemistry?
Of how we all hoped he'd get down on his knees in 2013 after she wins the world cup to inform her he knows he's not nearly good enough (too effing right he's not!) but would she consider taking him on because she feels sorry for him?
That Google.de has clearly indicated they are meant to be?
I despair.
2. Less Belly!Bonus In Our Lives

Mesut's cleats no longer match Crispy's. Crozil enthusiasts can only despair. Need I say more? I think not.

On a LESS serious note: it must be a sound business decision. Mesut's bizarrely lucrative contract with Nike has already been discussed in the community. He's third behind Messi and Crispy Ronaldo for sponsorships, so Adidas must be paying through the nose. The reason for his amazing luck in landing so much money from Nike in the first place: there are few Germany internationals who wear Nike and it is the wealthiest country of football enthusiasts in the world.
Adidas is of course welcome to make it up to us with a suitable ad with plenty of toplessness and by snagging Lira while they're at it. Hell, I might even reconsider my feeble protest of refusing to give them a tag (for now).
