Mesut Özil, congratulations on your victory and on scoring three times. First, let's set the record straight here: Was that first goal yours or Miroslav Klose's?
Ö: I have no idea. Sorry, no clue.
Cause he veered away to celebrate, but we got the feeling he wasn't crucial for that ball.
Ö: It doesn't matter to us who scores the goals. I'd like to compliment the team once more. We truly gave a super peformance and earned our high score.
Mesut, you preparing goals beautifully is no big news to us, but what is it that happened to you in Madrid that you've suddenly become such an accurate scorer? That was your first hattrick.
Ö: (laughs) I am naturally (!) glad that I scored goals and was able to help the team. Like I said, we did a super job as a team. We hardly gave them openings in the back. Sure, we conceded a few, well, unfortunate goals. But in the end we can be satisfied. To win by such a big margin. We're simply happy about that.
Did you do any concrete work on your goal scoring ability in Madrid? Was this one of José Mourinho's concerns?
Ö: Well, yes... (smiles sheepishly.) I do score now and then. It's to make me more confident in front of the goal, and that's worked pretty well today. Sure, I'm happy about that.
Is the German Eleven on its way to becoming the Euro Cup favorite?
Ö: Absolutely. We know our abilities. We have a really strong team. We proved it again today and our goal is to (stumbles over his words a bit) to naturally win the title.

"Zis is fashun..."

The Strenesse photo-shoot was last week. Plenty of beyond-adorable pictures have surfaced since.

Mesut was his usual somewhere-quite-indefinable-between-hot-and-just-cute self...

...Or perhaps we could just call it "Mesutness"?

Gratuitous Toplessness
Normally one would begin the post with this section, but I had to keep you reading!

I braved tumblr for you shameless hussies!

Fulsome Praise Continues to Come in -
Mesut was the feature of nearly every sports page in Germany after the game against Austria. The gist of all of them: a world-class performance and (as the Berlin Morning Post put it, rather cheekily) 2 and a half goals!

After the game, Thomas Mueller was asked about Mesut's performance. His reponse: "He plays at Madrid. Last I checked, all the best players are there."
Bastian Schweinsteiger: "Going to Madrid was the best thing for his [Mesut's] development."
Miroslav "goal-thief" Klose: "I got a touch to the ball." (Hmph!)

Off in Madrid, there was no question however. The Spanish newspapers (and most especially the Madrid-based press) were all agreed. It was tres gols from Mesut in all the headlines!
Mesut Is Released By Joachim Loew & Returns To Madrid
Mesut has been sent home by Joachim Loew - along with Manuel Neuer and Bastian Schweinsteiger. That means he will not play Poland on Tuesday. The reasoning: they are players who are likely to play (and progress) in several competitions this year - the Champions League, their league championships and their league cups.
It will be remembered too that Joachim Loew has an excellent relationship with the coaching staff at Madrid and that Mesut now plays in fewer friendlies than he used to as a result.

And that is all the news and tummy pics this morning!
