Sergio, Mesut sees your kissing Fernando's pic ...

... and raises you a proper physical display of bromantic superiority:

Posted on both Mesut's AND Sami's FB. That's internet lingo for engagement, right?

(But can someone tell me why Torres wasn't called up? I don't follow the Spanish NT.)

So Sami's ankle knock was apparently a false alarm, as he was training alongside the others the very next day, got stuck signing t-shirts with the others, and is on the flight to Kazakhstan (I ALWAYS forget where to put the H) with the team.

And he had this to say as well ...

“Mesut is a fantastic player, he’s unique. And I’m not saying that because he’s my friend. Özil is a crack and he can become one of the best in the world as long as he becomes more effective. For me, that’s what he lacks to become one of the best. Why are Cristiano and Messi the best? Because in addition to playing well, they score 50 goals. Özil plays wonderfully and his contributions lead to 30 goals each season. He’s the one who has the most assists, but he lacks the goalscoring. I always tell him, “Mesut, shoot more. You have to be more selfish, to score more goals.” I hope one day he listens to me, because the best thing is that he has an incredible shot.”

I know, Mats, neither can I get over the fact that your pretty face won't be gracing my TV screen on Friday

In other team-related news, we got our Schweini back. Look at him just bossing it during training.

(As Mesut's senior he could impart some valuable wisdom on the poor dear, like how one needn't tuck their hands into their sleeves since the invention of a little thing called the glove.)

I read somewhere (was it on this site?) that Podolski's not a big fan of the whole bromancing trend. I love and respect him and would hate to go against his wishes ... but what he doesn't know won't kill him, so:

"No, go away, Lukas! Basti's mine!"

"Oh no, you don't! We agreed to joint custody! You get him at Bayern, I get him on the NT! Go train with someone else!"
"Hmpf! Fine! ... 'Sup, Jerry?"

"Thank god for prenups! Come on, Basti, let's go see what Mesut and Sami are up to!"

The Torres situation is pretty dire. He's sad to watch these days when he gets to play (often benched, jeered when on the pitch). He did get a goal recently, but it says a lot that shortly after doing so, he missed a penalty. Eek.

Millions of words have been spilled trying to answer those questions. It's not an injury (at least not something like Kaka's situation), which is good. You'd think confidence could be regained, but his "form" (whatever that means) has been off the whole season. I wasn't watching last season, but from how the announcers laughed when he scored at the Euros, I take it the scene was ugly last year also (just checked - 6 goals in EPL matches). It's definitely a confidence thing, and I'd say he's one of the most miserable figures in the EPL. I stream a lot of games as a neutral, and he's someone I watch and feel sad for... I was SHOCKED to learn that he was once someone who scored a lot. The strange thing is that he's not uninvolved in the games or really awful (side-eyeing Modric here), he just never manages to finish -- the striking instinct/skill disappeared (well, he's up to 7 goals in the EPL, so at least it's one more than last year).

In other news, OH GOD Ronaldo is going to have a meltdown because a Mallorca player for Israel just scored and now it's 1-1... Time for the popcorn. O_o

Hard to say! The other reply is much more complete. It's as if he just lost his scoring mojo, except for the occasional big game strike. It reminds me of Poldi, who also used to be a goal machine for Germany, but who just disappears in games in much the same way. He's doing reasonably well for Arsenal though.
