If I had to sign a Real Madrid player it would be the German

Fàbregas: "I greatly admire Özil"

Sergi Font. Barcelona
02/14/2013

Cesc Fàbregas is very clear when he's asked about which Real Madrid players he would sign for Barcelona. Some weeks ago, Sandro Rosell revealed that "there is a Real Madrid player that I greatly admire, but I'm not saying who because all hell would break loose". A few days ago it was Pedro who said "I would sign Sergio Ramos". This time Cesc gave his honest opinion.

The Barcelona midfielder chose Özil: "I admire him a lot. I can relate to him because he plays in that roaming attacking midfield role that I played in at Arsenal and I think we would play well together. I can relate to him, we're very similar"

Cesc, are you aware that your confession to Mesut went public on Valentine's day ?

Let's see ... I know I put them somewhere ... Ah, here we go:

Doberman = Cesc
Mama cat = Özilites
Kitten = Özil

Oh, okay, am not THAT defensive about it, mainly because I can rest assured that it'll never happen. Would love for Özil to stay at Real for a good few more years to come (he's said he wants to play for Real until retirement, which would be even better, but am not sure whether that was sincere or just some PR assurance to the madridistas), but even if he were to leave I can't imagine him ever moving to Barcelona. I mean ... is that even possible/survivable?! Has any Real/Barca player gone to play for their biggest rival? That would be the ultimate betrayal, wouldn't it? And am sure Cesc knows this and was just speaking hypothetically.

But it's always nice to see how much his skills are appreciated/admired, even among team rivals :)

Yes.

I can picture Özil playing for Barca.

Ronaldo (old one) played for both. As did Luis Figo, Samuel Eto'o, Michael Laudrup and a lot of people a looong time ago, but back then I guess it was more politically charged than now.

I dunno, I can appreciate Real what with Özil and Xabi playing there.

And let's not forget that before Özil signed with Madrid he asked Barca if there were interested repeatedly.

When asked, “Do you have any wish, any big ambition, perhaps in a few years time?”

“My dream team has always been Barcelona, and I would like to play there someday. It has been my dream since I was a small boy,” was his unequivocal answer.

Don't start with all those "facts" and "rationality" here, missy! I will wallow in childish denial all I want!! >:(

... But, yeah, I know Özil was originally interested in Barca. I think there's even a pic floating about with him holding a Barca shirt prior to joining Real.

BUT that was in the past. You ... You can't have him! How could you even THINK about breaking up the bromances he's accumulated over the years?!

(Am leaving for work now. Be back in a few hours ^_^)

Swallow the truth. :)

By the way, this won't happen soon. When does mesuts contract expire? Real wouldn't ever SELL him to Barca.

I WOULD respond in outrage ... but damn it, you've discovered my one weakness! OMG wittle putty tats! Awwwwwwwwww!!! Who's a cutey-wootey? Who's eating off chopsticks?? You! YOU ARE!! :3

LOL Would be a very ballsy move from Barcelona to go knocking on Real's doors and ask them to sell Özil. As long as he continues to work his magic I don't see Real selling him anytime soon. Neither do I see him wanting to leave the Bernabeu anytime soon. He's looks pretty happy and settled in Madrid. But you never know ...

From a bromance-loving fangirl POV I'll mourn the day he leaves this handsome team, but even more heartbreaking: the end of Samisut (at club level, at least)?? NOOOOOOOOOOO!!!! Can't we move to petition them as a packaged deal, that wherever one transfers to, the other has to join him?!

they d just have to catch up at every germany game i guess?

you never know what happens the next seasons. I mean, barca wouldn't have a real use for him at the moment anyway. but maybe in a year or so? so much can change til then. and i don't think he s given up his childhood dream.

this is a barca fan speaking but besides mesut, sabi and xabi i am not a fan of madrids players. barca however... i love so many of them so much. urgh. and they re welcoming to players who give it a try so...

Meh. I'm an Özil supporter first and foremost, so I'd be compelled to support any club he plays for. Prior to following Özil I never cared much for club competitions. (Am myself Dutch and the Dutch national team is forever #1 in my heart, but Germany's always been my second favourite. I used to only watch international friendlies and qualifiers for World Cups and European Cups.) I have no affiliation with any club, so I cannot in good conscience even call myself a madridista because the day Özil leaves (no time soon, I hope) is the day I go, "Well, Real, it's been fun. See ya. Where to now, Bambi?"

THAT SAID ... I have grown to love the other players, for all their skills and faults. (Never thought I'd ever even like Ronaldo, but that's the power of Crözil for you.) While Mesut has had a couple of poor run-ins with Mou, the fact that he's happy and comfortable with his team mates is good enough for me. All bromancing jokes aside, he's built up a good repertoire with them and Real supporters, so it would understandably be considered quite a slap in the face if he were to then join Real's fiercest rivals.

My mom always said, "Never say never" (NO, Beliebers, Bieber did NOT coin that phrase so stop trying to claim it!) and while it would probably take several months to wash down the bile at the back of my throat at seeing him in a Barca shirt, in the end I'd have no choice but to accept it because Mesut wills it XD

I like Mesut and I like him at Madrid. I think madrid is a great club as far as football goes. Its one of the best in the world. I prefer barca, the style, the people etc, but i wouldn't ever saw madrid was a bad team! Ive seen mesut grow there. I just think he could also grow at barca and seeing how he used to swoon over them it is still possible that he would like to go there. of course he wouldn't say that now, lol, not sure how mou would react to THAT. Ha.

dutch national team was my first love, by the way. i cried 2006 :(
this time they weren't even worth rooting for, in my opinion. but in general i support germany, spain and holland. maybe a bit much but it means i won't be too sad as long as one of the 3 does well.

Whenever I meet someone who starts off saying, "Barca's crap/overrated ... " I just tune out. Bias aside, they're amazing. Frustratingly solid. For me, Real's biggest plus point over Barca = they have Özil XD

Eurgh. Euro 2012 was a massive disappointment. (I *really* ought to get to work on that Mesut v Elftal at Euro 2012 spam already.) Came in so promising, but that shock defeat to Denmark marked the beginning of the end. Cue usual locker room unrest and inner fighting and all the usual Dutch drama and we failed to get a single point. Ouch.

And then Löw decided to play mixy-matchy with the lineup and Germany lost to Italy. And I will leave it at that because when I get started on that ... particular match I usually end up crying, naked and spasming in my shower.

I should WANT for this to happen but to me there's just NOT enough off-pitch entertainment at Barca! We'd miss so much I think!

I'm actually more concerned about Pep wanting him at Bayern...

I just feel like we don't get to see nearly as much behind-the-scenes material from Barca as we do from Real Madrid. At least, in my experience. Plus, the personalities just aren't as big. I can't think of him (Mesut) interacting with any of the Barca guys quite like he does with Sergio, Cris, Benzema, etc. And of course, there'd be no Sami. So just less material to discuss, laugh at, ogle at, etc.

listen, it is perfectly fine if cesc fabregas wants to spend his international breaks panting hungrily over our captain's dick:

we all understand that impulse. it is quite another thing to step into our house and start going after our beloved team bicycle -- does cesc KNOW how many bromances mesut is embroiled in? shit is starting to look like a real world reunion.

i'm sorry there aren't enough hotties for you in barcelona, cesc. but calm the fuck down.
