Sorry for the lack of posts. Am currently in the middle of having all four of my wisdom teeth extracted (two out, two to go) and when I am buzzed up on anaesthetic and a surplus of morphine and/or ibuprofen it is in everyone’s best interest that I refrain from much online activity.
Yes, I promised to do whichever bromance got the most requests, but democracy is overrated so Perzil will have to wait because an unexpected contender has thrown itself into the headlights of my Fanmobile. Couple of days ago, this appeared on Mesut's Twitter ...

To which Jérôme responded ...

... Okay then. Germany's #20, the bespectacled defender and King of Nonchalance:
Jérôme Boateng!

Yeah ... this one's an eye-opener. I never gave Boatzil much thought because I was always under the impression that Boateng was best friends with Sami (must have read or heard that somewhere), so I sooner associated him with Sami than with Mesut. Boateng's a pretty quiet guy and a solid defender. He did a damn good job corralling Ronaldo during the Germany v Portugal Euro 2012 match, but he isn't the sort of player who draws a lot of headlines. He was, however, one of the German players whose name I remembered from World Cup 2010 mainly due to all the attention focused on the fact that his older brother, Kevin-Prince Boateng (he of now "standing up to racist chants by douche crowd by marching off the pitch" fame; I support him!), was playing for the Ghanaian national team and that the two would face off against each other in the Germany v Ghana group match. Didn't sound like a big deal at the time to me ... and it still doesn't. This clip sums it up pretty nicely:
Özil's breautiful goal at the end! :)
Update: the brothers appear to have reconciled and were spotted holidaying together last year. Yay!
Like a number of current squad mates, Boateng was on the 2009 U21 winning team. Again, for some reason I always thought he'd been clubmates with Sami at one point, but nope. He's played for Hertha, Hamburg and Machester City before joining Bayern in 2011.
(Okay, am gonna cheat as an excuse to post the following vid. Mesut played for Werder Bremen. Jérôme played for Hamburger SV. Connection! Here's a vid of a proud German dad showing off his adorable son's knowledge of die Mannschaft. All goes well, until they begin "debating" clubs. Kid likes Werder Bremen. Dad's an HSV loyalist.
2:30 -> "I'm giving you up for adoption!" Ahahahahahaaa!)

Really, Jérôme, how you manage to let MESUT outclass you in the fashion department?? He isn't even dressed all that spiffy, but your t-shirt and that belt buckle ... Yes, yes, I too once owned a giant skull buckle. I was also thirteen at the time and at the height of my WWF addiction and wrote angsty poetry in a black notebook bemoaning how unfair my life after my parents refused to buy me that new discman with glow-in-the-dark skulls cover. Macabre accessories have no place in a photo of you holding what I assume is the UEFA 2009 U21 champions trophy.
Practice:

German Shepherd keeping the herd in check ~_^

Man, I miss Arne :(
Man, I do NOT miss Mario's hairstyle :)
Day 15 of the hostage negotiation ...

"Okay, what if he stands next to me during stretching, and then he'll jog with you afterwards?"
"No deal. You get to spend as much time as you want with him in Spain. I'm keeping him for this entire practice session. Don't make me call in Mats for backup."
" ... Do *I* get any say in this??"

Lineup!

Götze, you'd better be singing!

I consider it fate that Mesut's #8 and Sami's #6. Samisut is my bromance of choice, AND I was born in '86! :D

"Okay, on three we start singing the anthem with everyone else. It'll blow their minds!"
Huggies!
Back to the Germany v Ghana match ...

Oh, Per, am so sorry. I promise Perzil will be up next! :(

Must. Resist. Un-PC. Oreo. Joke.
... Hey, hang on, I'm black! That negates all racist connotations, right? HA!

"Run, Mesut, run! I'll distract them!"

"Good job!" *sniffs hair*

(semi) NEKID MESUT!

Mwoar (semi)NEKID MESUT!

Sami sure was quick to get in the middle there ...
*SPECIAL* (semi) NEKID MESUT: Off-Pitch Edition!

Booo, Boateng! You've been hanging around Khedira too long. Strip!
(I seriously ought to start working on that Mesut v Netherlands at Euro 2012 post)

Spotting his friend being harangued by Jetro Willems, Mesut charges bravely into the fray!
Still surprised this bromance so thoroughly eluded me until recent, but now I will be keeping an eye out! Oh, Mesut, you are insatiable!

And irresistible :)

Date: 2013-01-15 04:01 pm (UTC)This was awesome! I have a soft spot for Jerome. :) I'm hoping after all this twittering lately, there will be more shots of them together at the next call-up.
I LOVE this picture of him. He just seems a beautiful person inside and out.

Date: 2013-01-15 06:19 pm (UTC)I didn't know there were two Boategs, to be honest (probably because I don't follow international tournaments or Bundesliga), but I'm happy that I found out - he's quite easy on the eyes. ;) Just like his brother.
Thank you for the lovely post, as always! I rarely have time to comment on these posts (sorry), but I always find myself giggling at your captions when I read them.
