crinkly_earsThere's still a week to go, but Mesut is blowing away the competition for National Player of the Year - an award he won last year and had no idea he had won until he arrived in Bremen to play France (that is to say, the night before he received it!). It made for an amusing press-conference!
In second place, occasional bromantic interest Miroslav "goal-thief" Klose. Rounding out the top three, Borussia Dortmund's Marco Reus.
Mesut's second goal against the Faroe Islands is in the top 5 "goal of the year" poll at the moment, though currently Miro Klose's opener against Sweden and Mario Gomez's opener against those accursed Dutchmen during the Euros are in first and second, respectively!

Meanwhile: the boy with the upside down ears has returned to Madrid!
Most of the coverage involves Iker Casillas, of course - since he was dropped against Malaga and the team lost their last match. The crowd chanted "Iker, Iker" throughout much of the session (it was open).
Two things to note:
Well, he's back :)
Also, those fans with that sign asking for Mesut's shirt "danke shoen" - which we saw in September - haven't given up! They've laminated the sign to protect it from the elements and are settling in for the long-haul! Apparently, there are people who do not spend time in this community who are as single-minded as many of us!
They only want the shirt off his back!
Sweet, eh?
And finally: It will soon be time to discover which cleat Mesut has taken to wearing for the long-term. Watch this space! His contract, and the matching offer from Nike (for which they took him to court), will be up tomorrow! It'll be interesting to see how much money he managed to finagle out of adidas!
