When news reached my ears that Germany will pretty much be playing with a reserve team--i.e. no Özil--tonight I figured there was no reason to do a post on the match, but a couple of people have shown some interest in the experience nonetheless so I'll make one anyway. To compensate for the lack of Özil, and yet somehow keep the posts relevant to this site, I will ingeniously incorporate pics of him throughout. Like this one :)

See, Mesut won't be playing, but Howedes might! Two-in-one! TOTALLY relevant! :D
So, having already taken the day off work and studies, I had to get up early anyway to go to the physiotherapist in Soestdijk. Woke up, went downstairs, turned on the light, and was greeted with this sickening sight ...

The victim :(
My niece had set up a makeshift My Little Pony stable under the coffee table yesterday and had accidentally left a couple of the colourful horsies behind. No one noticed ... except for Otto, who apparently got the late night munchies.

The culprit, looking rightfully guilty >:(
Despite having the wide choice between mutilating the blue one, the pink one, the violet one, the green one or the two yellow ones, he shifted through them all and selected, of all colours, the ORANGE one. Clearly, my Staffie hates the Dutch team! D:<
As much as I greatly prefer WATCHING the German team more than the Dutch, I was raised in Dutch football culture and despite my shallow protests a large part of me will allows root for Oranje. If they win tonight, I will be happy (especially since there will be no unhappy Özil around to make me feel bad about it). So to appease whatever football deity's floating about up there, and to teach Otto to be proud of his Dutch pedigree, I had to cleanse the house of such shameful conduct and reinstate the proper Dutch mentality. With the help of a scarf and a Wuppie that could do with a good combing, order was restored!

Yes, you bad dog, you ought to be ashamed! How could you hate Oranje? Look how lovely it compliments your black coat!

Simply dashing! :)

And then he tried to eat the Wuppie ... I really need to get him back in obedience classes -_-'
Right, so hopefully my dog hasn't jinxed the Dutch team. As I said, I won't mind who wins tonight, especially since it's only a friendly. I think it's actually for the best, this being my first time attending a major football match. Since nothing's on the line and they're both my favourites, I'll be able to just sit back and enjoy the experience.
Match starts at 8.30. Stadium opens at 6.30. Will be heading out at around 4.00 to see if I can document any "oranje-gekte" (orange madness) in Amsterdam. Then it's just a quick train/tram/bus/whatever-I-come-across-first-that-has-wheels to the ArenA.
In conclusion:

Lahm, Kroos, Gotze and Podolski might/should be playing tonight. And Mesut is shirtless. You're welcome :)

Date: 2012-11-14 01:29 pm (UTC)And Otto is absolutely adorable. I especially like the first scarf picture. His expression could be captioned, "Really?" LOL Seriously though, I hope he didn't swallow any of that jagged plastic! Yikes!
Have a great time. Take lots of pictures! And my advice: be stealthy, make yourself small, and smile a lot and maybe you'll get up close for a few prized shots!

Date: 2012-11-14 02:40 pm (UTC)On principle, as a Mannschaft fan, of course I find it very difficult to support the Dutch in anything (even though I'm not German myself, though it does run in my veins from a few generations back), but I've already prepared myself for a loss here. No Bastian or Sami in the defensive midfield, and no striker up front? Doesn't seem too promising from where I stand. But hey, it's just a friendly after all ;)
I hope it's an exciting match either way since you'll be in the stadium :D
