A Splendidly Gif-Heavy Mesut-Centric Match Report & Spam!*

*Best to wait for the page to load!
But first -
Wide-Puppy-Dog-Eyed, Lip-Biting Shyness In Gifs!
If you haven't watched Mesut's Spanish interview after the Lyon game yet, you can see it HERE.
If you have - well, I'm sure you won't mind this mini-catalogue of his bug-eyed adorableness.

Oh Mesut! How is so much wide-eyed charm possible in one person? It must be one of those mysteries of the Mesutness phenomenon!
Training Pics Of The Past Few Days & Pre-Match Moments!
So many games in so short a period of time, but Madrid were back in training within a day of their game at Olympique Lyon in the Champions League.
Mourinho moved training to earlier in the day because the kick-off time for Saturday's game would be at lunchtime - at 12 noon - in what some believe is an attempt by the Liga to see how many Asian fans will tune in at this more sensible hour.
And as always, the cameras gifted us with some bug-eyed highlights -

With Sami and Mesut chatting off to the side, as they are wont to do!

And Albiol deciding to give Mesut (whose hands were ever-so-carefully tucked into his sleeves!) a hug - and why not?

Full disclosure: I would hug Mesut too!
Then they were off to to their hotel - with Mesut carrying what one hopes is a laptop bag and not a murse -

And then arriving at the stadium. This picture in particular shows off the Renaissancesque cast to his features that

- and another view of the supposed dreaded murse! What do we think ladies? Is that a laptop bag or is Higuain a bad influence?
Match Report & Spam
Another splendid match from our lovely young man! The Spanish commentators labelled him a "nightmare" for the opposition defence - and he was too. The English commentators remarked that he looked healthy again - with lots of energy - and that he was having a very involved game.
Mesut was directly involved in 3 goals, having the penultimate pass in all of them!

At the centre-circle with Higuain before the game.
First though - Crispy presented his golden shoe to the crowd! Well done Crispy!

And the boys also showed up wearing t-shirts with the number 19 - Cassano's old shirt number - with "Forza Cassano" on the front. Cassano, as many of you will know, now plays for Milan and had a stroke last week, but is reportedly recovering well.

Well it was a splendid match! 7-1 from the boys with a hat-trick for Ronaldo! (Who said you can't score in La Liga before 9 pm?)
This translated into immense amounts of cuddling and happiness -

Cuddles for Crispy!
Note for Samisut watchers: there is just a smidgen of it going on in this gif! Someone wanted a hug, perhaps?
Mesut was thrilled for all the goal-scorers and showed off his splendid eye-lashes for the cameras, which you really could run a comb through -

He could model mascara for Covergirl's Lash Blast!
Pepe scored - and the cameras caught the celebrations from the front -

- and also the back!

And Mesut's gentle rubbing at Pepe's wonderful egg-head!

Mesut also spent other goal-celebrations surreptitiously rubbing Sami's back -

And surreptitiously rubbing Sami's shoulder

And surreptitiously re-rubbing Sami's back

And getting his hair not-so-surreptitiously ruffled in return at one point -

And taking part in our favourite bromantic triangle!

Playmaking
As was mentioned above, Mesut made two penultimate passes. They were both lovely.
This one, in the second half, led to the 5th goal -

He also started a quick counter attack off a pass by Iker Casillas and was fouled in the box just as he was about to shoot -

A penalty was awarded from which Crispy scored the 4th goal -

Mesut also had a shot on goal, which replays showed was heading into the back of the net before the keeper saved it at the near post -

But it was this piece of loveliness that made all the highlight reels -

Other Mesuty moments
Sending up a prayer before kick-off -

Handing the ball off to Coentrao for a throw-in -

Getting rather irritated when he was given a vigorous embrace from one of the Osasuna defence (to prevent him from breaking) -
- a moment that, according to the comms (who have a view of the entire stadium), had Mourinho shouting with rage on the sidelines -

Taking corner kicks -

Taking two separate corner kicks - and rubbing his nose for one of them!

And chasing the ball out of bounds with (once again) a certain Renaissancesque cast to his face -

Mesut and Sami came off for Callejon and Nuri Sahin (who had his debut) just before the end of the match.

And he and Mourinho had a tender moment on the side-lines -

Press Reviews
Goal.com's write-up sums up the prevailing opinion: The German looked lively and almost scored with an angled drive in the first half, which Andres pushed onto the post. Ozil then won the penalty in the second half with a fine run into the box.
And the commentators as he came off: Involved in some of the goals, industrious performance - he was all over the park. Very solid performance.
And in very sad and distressing news it was reported this afternoon that friend and teammate Angel di Maria will be out for a whole month - the poor duck has severely injured his hamstring. Good luck Noodle and feel better soon!

It is now international break. Cue bromantic intrigue, press-conferences, training pics, features on the DFB website and interviews!
Good luck Germany against the

As always many thanks, hugs, cuddles, hair-ruffles and kisses for
