For me as a Werder Bremen fan the world cup 2010 and all the özil euphoria was wonderful and everything - but it was painful to witness what happened to Bremen after he left. He just makes everyone around him so much better, so with him gone - well, Wiese nailed it.
I feel like Werder never really recovered. For a long time they'd always had that one genius play maker (Micoud, Özil, Diego) everybody else was counting on and since Özil left that position if just... vacant. Schaaf says they're starting anew blablabla and building this new young team for the long run - I hope he kows what he's doing. So far their performance this season has been - mixed. As I'm sure you know: They just lost 5:0 to Dortmund. :-((((((
