Real Madrid 4 Lyon 0 - Mesut Scores (Sort of) & Assists! - The Mesut-Centric Match Report & Spam!

Olympique Lyonnaise are well-known to Madrid. Not only are they bromantic interest Karim Benzema's old team, but they have contrived to knock Madrid out of the Champions League twice at embarrassingly early stages.

The First Goal.

Mesut assisted the first goal, which got him an extra-specially loving cuddle from Crispy Ronaldo...

...before Benzi got a very nice cuddle all to himself.

Madrid were not to score again in the first half, but it scarcely mattered. They were dominating so completely (67% possession, many shots on goal with the game being played almost exclusively in the opposition half), and with a goal up at half-time it didn't seem possible anymore that Lyon would win the game - or even equalize for that matter.

All smiles at half-time + Samisut!

The Second Goal (Which Is Why Mesut Couldn't Stop Smiling)

Sami Khedira is doubtless very popular in this community. He's brave, he's handsome, he's kind to Mesut - and he sure knows how to save it for the big occasion!

Sami had never scored for Madrid officially. Hadn't scored all season, and hadn't ever scored in the Champions League! With his typical Sami-style flair and Teutonic efficiency, he decided to take care of this minor statistical blip all in one move by scoring the second of Madrid's goals.

The Third Goal (Which Lloris May or May Not Have Helped In)...

...was not to go down as Mesut's since the villainous Lyon keeper had the effrontery to try to keep out Mesut's shot and simply helped it bounce in. Frankly I think it should be Mesut's goal though, and I am sure the keeper would agree with me :) Own goals are so embarrassing after all!

At somewhat greater length...

Still, Mesut got plenty of affection in a rather restrained goal-celebration (because over-doing it on goal-celebrations when you are dominating the game to an embarrassing extent and are three goals up is something that other team does).

There were cuddles from Marcelo -

Samisut sweetness was on display -

And just general happiness at being 3-0 - which expressed itself in much hair-ruffling, cuddling and happiness!

And extra-specially sweet moments from Mesut's main (and duelling) bromantic interests -

Other Mesuty moments -

Taking corners -

Getting instructions from Iker on positioning himself to block the view for a free kick -

Helping to tell off the (Turkish) official when Xabi got a yellow card -

Looking distraught (about only being 4 goals up?) -

Taking another rather lovely shot on goal -

And leaving the pitch to a standing ovation (one of two players to receive one on the night) -

I love how shy he is about acknowledging the crowd.

Mesut's Stats and Press Reviews

The best review of the game came from Coach Jose Mourinho, who had the following to say to a German television station -

When Ozil has the ball, he does magical things with it. The fans love him. I love him, and the club is super-satisfied with his performances. He's still young, and he's very good, but we are pushing him to find the next level in his playing because we know he still has even more potential.

Training Pictures

Yesterday's training pics are out. Friend Sami Khedira looks rather dashing all bandaged up and very cheerful - and Mesut looks very cheerful too!

Mesut also showed off his luscious new hair-style. Perhaps Gulizar Ozil should hold off on the scissors after all?

I told [livejournal.com profile] andriy_7 yesterday that I was ill and would be posting a day late. He had (of course) already sent many high-quality gifs and pictures - including those now on display in the Sami-centric match-spam at our affiliate [livejournal.com profile] sami_khedira. When I woke up, somewhat recovered, there were even more waiting for me! They are all his own creation, are made from the very best downloads he can find, and must have taken hours to finish. A round of applause please for the indefatigable, comprehensive, and perfectly brilliant [livejournal.com profile] andriy_7!

And finally - a Pre-Lyon Match-Morsel/Advertisement!

Mesut Hopes To Raise The Tenth (Among Others)!

Of course, If Madrid do make it to the final in Munich to try and defeat whoever it is they are up against and "Raise the Tenth", they will not wear BWIN on their shirts. Gambling site advertisement is banned in German stadiums.
