Mesut, 17 - A Short Film
First of all, many thanks to dearest
bonniebutterfly for sending this on!

Our crinkly-eared, modern day hero will be the star of a short feature film to be shown at the Berlin Football Film Festival!
The film-maker is award-winner Aljoscha Pause - best known for films on the blind Bundesliga and for films examining homosexuality in the sport. His last film, on Zinedine Zidane, won an award!

Grimme-award winner Aljoscha Pause shows until-now unreleased footage of a youth tournament,
in which Mesut Ozil not only dazzles the onlookers, but gives his first television interview!

The filmmaker, Aljoscha Pause

I will certainly be refreshing Youtube!
Since we can't wait it right away, here's a video of Mesut done only a few weeks later - when he was finally allowed to train with Schalke's first team. The tournament is alluded to ("You were German Champion") and a sweeter kid you will rarely come across. He's terrified, he wipes his face on his shirt and he's visibly scared of the microphone! It's still my favourite interview of all the ones he ever did.
THE TRANSLATION IS HERE
And just a reminder: THIS ARTICLE HERE reviews Mesut as a student and interviews his old classroom and phys-ed teacher (and is still my favourite post in this community)!
