Real Madrid vs Manchester City - The Highly Belated Mesuty Match Spam

Our beloved bug-eyes didn't get the chance to play yesterday. He was warming up when Madrid had a man sent off and Mourinho sent on Albiol and Varane instead to shore up the defence.

Just as well! Because two months ago Madrid played Manchester City and this community never had a Mesuty Match spam - even though [livejournal.com profile] andriy_7 made beautiful gifs for the community and provided some lovely pictures.

So let's take a look back, to celebrate Madrid getting through to the last 16!

So here were the managers prior to the game - which Mesut did not start. Looking back, it was one of those moments in the team dynamic that was not very positive. Sergio Ramos was sort of in the dog-house - and a week later would put on Mesut's shirt. He also made the bench and wouldn't feature for this game.

These men don't hate each at all!

And they flirted and giggled and stuff while the camera panned over to the bench a few times.

I remember this game very clearly, and have watched it a couple of times because of the unbelievable ending to the match. But things didn't go too well at first. Madrid dominated completely (City couldn't string two passes together) but something was missing. A finishing touch, perhaps? Also, it was a conservative line-up, with Essien next to Sami and Xabi.

I remember vividly what the commentator said (in reference to the disciplinary problems Mourinho supposedly had) as Mesut got ready to come on. "I've made my point, now let's try to win this match."

It was an early example of Messien, incidentally - a bromance we have all come to love!

And he was joined by a couple of friends when things began to go badly...(note scoreline in minute 73)

In post-match reviews, Mesut was written up very nicely. The Guardian minute-by-minute was very complimentary and noted him "skipping near the City six-yard area....providing danger..."

Isn't Marcelo's goal a peach? And with his right foot too!

Mesut was to receive a very nice pass from Marcelo in the 80th minute - but Hart got to the ball before he could...

Cue bug-eyed despair!!

Mesut even tried to head the ball a couple of times - which was a strange sight, it has to be said!

Nice view!

Like a ballerina!

Then City scored off a free kick and it was pretty dire until friend Benzema decided he'd had enough...

A real striker's goal!

Everyone was so pleased with the draw after all that - except for the amazing Mr Slick, of course - and in the final minute...

Cast your minds back...and you'll remember that Crispy had said he was unhappy the week before. I quote the Sky Sports Commentators: "And he says he's unhappy. Listen to how much they love him!" as the stadium exploded!

Mesut put his arm around Modric and rested an exhausted head on Arbeloa's back while everyone cued up to give Crispy some love.

It's no secret, I think, how much I adore Crispy Ronaldo - so here are a few more gifs of his beautiful winning goal...

And that was Madrid's match from a Mesuty point of view!

He was all over the place!

Looking back, a vital three points!

Oh, long-locks Mesut, how I miss thee ...

Am kinda surprised you didn't include probably the most memorable moment of the night, however. I mean, sure, the boys did good, winning and all that, but let's be honest. THIS was the real star of the evening:
Image
Why isn't there a reality show about this guy? Forget the airheaded party-whores and douche-bags trawling the Jersey nightclubs. You give me MouTV NOW, media!

[identity profile] ladya-sama.livejournal.com 2012-11-22 11:10 pm (UTC)(link)
... Do tell? Pwetty please? :3

[identity profile] ladya-sama.livejournal.com 2012-11-22 11:18 pm (UTC)(link)
I don't know whether I could say I "admire" Mou ... but holy donuts he sure is fun to watch!
Image
Whenever nothing's happening on the field I wish the cameras would just turn to Mou. Even when he's just sitting there brooding he cracks me up. He *can* piss me off sometimes, much in the same way Ronaldo (love him) pisses me off when he overdoes his bragging, but then Mou goes off and says or does something and while I try biting my lips to keep from laughing I end up smiling and shaking my head nonetheless.

[identity profile] ladya-sama.livejournal.com 2012-11-22 11:28 pm (UTC)(link)
Innit though? This one's even better!

Image

Everyone else is all, "YEAH! WE SCORED!! GOOD GOING, BOYS!"
And Mou's just, "Oh, you scored? That's cute. What? No, I ain't applauding that, because winning is what we should have been doing in the first goddamn place since the start of the season!"

So, in a nutshell...

Me?! That's impossible! I made a gif for that moment and I sent it to you! You may miss the message or your photobucket didn't upload it for some reasons!

Here is the gif :D

Lovely match spam, as usual.

Height 182 and weight 73 kg? In Marca they say 183 cm and 76 kg. Who's right? They can't be so inaccurate, this is vital information! (76 kg actually seems a bit too much to me, he's so tiny).

[identity profile] musetta-246.livejournal.com 2012-11-23 12:38 am (UTC)(link)
4 kg of muscle? Oh my...

Yes, he's changed a lot :)

Adorable.

Great post. I could watch the last half hour of this match on replay, it was that good. I was in my university's library watching this on my laptop. It was very hard to contain myself, as you can imagine.

Also, by the way, is the heat map a part of an app? I want it for iPhone, that's nifty!

Awesome...

We needed this match spam...thanks for working in it. It made my day lack of Mesutyness...

1-2-3 pow!

[identity profile] oh-meng.livejournal.com 2012-11-23 05:37 am (UTC)(link)
Brilliant!

Marcelo had been making attempts like that throughout the ticking minutes (two or three prior to the goal) and I remember thinking, one of those is bound to go in. And one did!

Karim squeezed his goal through the only path available given the limited space--just like a sharpshooter.

And Cristiano's goal was thunderous affirmation that we needed to win the game. It had to be done, so he did it. It came exactly when it was supposed to in the most dramatic of ways.

Thank you for bringing back that lovely game.

More power to you!!

If only I could join this 'feliz'. until now still upset why the hell Mou didn't put him in the eleven, not even minutes. I need to kill some douche questioning Mou's strategy in the first minutes.
put Callejon in 2nd half only a joke when that doesn't affect much.
This is Champions League, Ozil always set up a goal in every CL match.
One doesn't simply benched Ozil.

Glad RM, BVB, Arsenal, Schalke 04, Bayern Munich got through!

Aaaah had a shitty day...
This made it soo much better!!! Yes, the last game was lacking some Mesut! He is the one who makes the games beautiful/interesting (well all games are somewhat interesting but...)
Thank you!

Wow. I remember this game so well. Because by accident (it was fate, I know) the tv channel was changed to the one showing this game, and I - almost gotten over the heartbreak of EURO 2012 being over and gone, and still having the image of saaad Mesut haunting in my mind (and me mulling over it) - for some unknown reason (fate) decided that the tv belonged to me for the rest of the evening, and shouted: "Hey, Real Madrid! I could... I want to watch this game." and for some unknown reason (fate) no-one objected(!)

And I was a bit disappointed that Mes wasn't playing (only these peeks at the bench) but knew that he would, and smiled so widely when he came in. :) After that, I needed to find the streams and this comm and then get me more tv channels and... <3 <3 <3 I fought back at him for SO long. But this year, and unfortunately only after the Euro championships I completely gave in. After the next game, I think, I started writing Samisut (all accidentally with a hint of Serzil :D) (still in progress, I have work and home to take care of, dudes ><) and was all lost to this fandom.

Thanks for this post! :) It reminded me of so much and obviously was a sign to get working on the drabbles and all and getting my match notes onto the computer and the net finally instead of just constantly thinking about it. ;D

PS. Aww, the hair... and the headband :,S
