Ray Hudson Goes Wild: A Hat-trick of Assists for Avatar Eyes Özil ! The Granada Match Review & Spam!

Ray Hudson: "That's devious, that's foxy!"

Ray Hudson: "That's devious, that's foxy!"
This game was lovely from the point of view of any Madrid fan. For we Ozileris it was particularly so! Mesut was splendid, providing some of the loveliest assists he's managed in a white shirt thus far. Nevertheless, this was a difficult match-spam to organize!
For example: should the gif of Mesut's unspeakable backheel assist take centre stage at the top of the post? In the end, I decided that yes, it should. But it was difficult!
Consider the following two images for example -
- and believe me when I say they were definite finalists for top spot, for obvious reasons!

Poor duck - he's in pain - but he looks so yummy!

And his teammates are always so genuinely concerned when he's down!
You see my difficulties?
And then there was this one - the oddly hypnotic sight of Crinkly-Eared Sweetness coming back onto the pitch after the break.

Decisions, decisions! I take my match spams very seriously, as I'm sure you all realized - in addition to my serious responsibility to show-case

However, in a game where Mesut assists three times - the second time he's managed it for the White Ballet, I decided that the assists would have to take centre stage and that the first was certainly flash enough to get top-billing!
So with no further ado, I present...
The Match Report & Spam
Some Pre Match Moments
The German boys arriving at the stadium...

...and warming up!

The Game

The game started with Madrid very dominant but unfortunate in their final passes. Granada has the third best defence in the league though so this was quite unsurprising. It would end up taking something very special in the 19th minute to get past their defence. This brings us to the first assist - arguably the loveliest of the evening, though, as you will see, Mesut's third assist was certainly very special too!
Assist Number 1 - Karim Benzema's 1:0
Although it was featured above this is definitely worth a second, and a third, look. The team moves that resulted in the goal started quite deep from Higuain, and ended with double-passes between Crispy Ronaldo and Mesut inside the box before Mesut back-heeled to Benzema.

These gifs are quite addictive actually, and should probably have come with a warning, now I think of it!

It was gorgeous - and so was Benzema's beyond-lovely finish, which earned him plenty of cuddles!

Meanwhile in the studio, Ray Hudson was quite beside himself!
Started from a lovely little touch from Mesut, who does it again and flicks it on with his backheel...it is fully intentional people - and that is a magisterial goal from Benz!
No defending that people. Majesty! When Mesut Özil comes out like that...people will say I'm overstating it, but I know my football and there was nothing accidental about that. The vision of Avatar eyes, knowing that it only needed a little touch for Big Benz - delivered to him on a silver platter with a big white bow wrapped around it.
Cristiano and Mesut combining for magic!
I'll never understand why this kid hasn't been maintained with and encouraged. You play him and he'll give you magic all day long.
Wonderful from the wonderful little Mesut Özil !

Assist Number 2 - Sergio Ramos's 2:1
Sergio Ramos's lovely header came off Mesut's rather perfectly taken corner.

Watch the ball's trajectory and you will notice it seems to be curving as you would expect before it drops almost straight down. The ball's peculiar drop is no accident of course. To force the ball to curl in that manner takes a great deal of practice!
At any rate - the perfectly taken corner!

And to quote our favourite presenter: Avatar eyes sends it in beautifully, of course. Set piece magic from Avatar eyes!
Assist Number 3 - Benzema's 4:1
Arguably, the best assist of the evening - though not as eye-catching as the first.

Mesut's pass must have been over 40 yards at least - perfectly Xabi-esque pass in every way.
While bringing the ball down with his perfect first touch and making his strike, Benzema injured himself. He still hobbled over to thank Mesut.

Sami gave him a surreptitious cuddle while Sergio Ramos seems to have ruffled his hair - the type of carresses that are always certain to get a wide smile out of Mesut!

And here was Ray Hudson's verdict on the pass (and yes - he used the word "orgiastic":
Can I get a sparkle count on that pass because that's blinding? It's a spectacular finish but look at that ball. Drops it into a thimble for Big Benz. That ranging pass from Mesut was absolutely orgiastic.
Look at this, I'm telling you people that was just hotter than Jessica Rabbit. Wonderful genesis of the goal from you-know-who.

Mesut's assists: Hotter than Jessica Rabbit!
Other Notes
If you're wondering how we got the gif (seen above) of Mesut's delectable backside - it turns out we have one of the Granada defence to thank for that. He helpfully fouled Mesut for us. Nice of him to do this for us!

No harm in taking a second look is there ladies?

Meanwhile, Mesut's terror of defensive wall duties seems, far from subsiding, to have actually become worse. Just look at that wide-eyed terror!

While Mesut was on the pitch there was one other goal scored, by dearest friend Pipita. It was the only goal he didn't assist while on the field, but he was fortunate enough to get to Pipita first to give him a nice long cuddle!
Mesut was substituted off in the 66th minute to some very hearty applause from the home-crowd and a final cuddle from Kaka...

...And a little more applause from Rui and Karanka!

Press Reviews
The Ray Hudson Corner
As you can see from the comments I've already noted, Ray went wild - quite wild - over Mesut's performance. Ray Hudson was of course a midfielder before he became a coach, so his enthusiasm for Mesut's assists is quite explicable.
A few final comments from him:
What I love about this kid - this Mesut Özil - it's the whole range, the reportoire of his game, the cleverness, the wonderful moxie he has in his blood, the coolness and vision; just a wonderful player this little German International.
When one of Mesut's passes went awry:
That's a defective ball, obviously!

And as he came off -
Magnificent performance from Mesut Özil. Providing goals and opportunities galore and the glue that bound the team together.
And then, his final comment on Mesut while he was on the bench -
Man of the match. Who do you think? For me, he's sitting on the bench with those beautiful, weird eyes. Provided some of the goodness, when Madrid was off the beat.

Quite Stunning!
The Spanish and German Presses
The game was written up VERY extensively. Here is only a small part of the commentary - which was picked up by the German press.
El Pais entitled their review of the game "Off the Heel of Özil" and made reference to his first assist as "the finest detail in the game".
Marca notes that "Özil has redeemed himself with a glittering display in the centre which seemed to know no limits."
And happily, for once, even the German press is joining in. The Berliner Zeitung entitled its write-up "Özil in Gala-form" while our old friends at Bild described him as "Super-Özil"!

Over at RealMarid.com - the obvious conclusion -

And for those of my readers who love their statistics - Mesut is now the second highest assistant in the league!

This match post was written, and all translations were done, and all of Ray Hudson's ecstatic commentary was taken down as it was spoken; by me,
