Osasuna v Madrid: Mesut Takes Shots At Goal While Crispy Ronaldo Steals The Show!
Osasuna v Madrid: Mesut Takes Shots At Goal While Crispy Steals The Show!

One sensed the lad wanted a goal
.
Pre-Game Notes
Mesut had spent the last game (against Real Sociedad) watching from the stands, hilariously badly dressed, accompanied by the side-kicks who never seem to leave him in peace.

The boy needs a woman's touch, frankly.
Re-reading Mesut's press-conference of last year - "I'm never alone" - and the wistful feature article of peaceful, solitary days in Bremen that came out when he returned to Germany last month and one is reminded of
![[livejournal.com profile]](https://www.dreamwidth.org/img/external/lj-userinfo.gif)

Note how distressed Benzi looks to be
pushed aside for a moment!
Off in practice, things seem far more contented. Mesut remains in long-sleeves and shorts while others work on their tans. And one is reminded that Altintop seems to be someone people can't resist snuggling up to.

The lads left for Pamplona (to meet Osasuna, a team they hadn't beaten since 2008 - the last time Madrid won the league) on Friday evening -

And while there was some nastiness (crowds throwing dung at the team bus and chanting "Goodbye Liga") there were also the usual happy crowds!

The Match Spam
The fans chanting "Goodbye Liga" were merely representing majority viewpoint: this was a team against which Madrid was considered likely to draw against, or perhaps lose too.

Unfortunately for Osasuna, Crispy Ronaldo (who was to finish the evening with two goals and two final passes, along with having broken his free-kick jinx) had failed to get the memo - to say nothing of Karim Benzema:

Such pretty footwork!
Mourinho was to term this goal "out of this world" and it has drawn comparisons to Van Basten (no less!).

There was certainly much rejoicing!

Even the famously unimpressionable bench looked (almost) impressed -

Interesting fact: Osasuna's goalkeeper, who was their third-stringer before injury gave him his big break in October, was interviewed last week and revealed that he has found inner peace since reading a book on Buddhism. Cool eh?

The crowd was not so harmonious! One goal down and they threw bits of paper, chewed up peanuts and toilet-paper at the corner flag whenever Mesut took one of his corner kicks.

The commentator: "Ozil does a little house-keeping at the corner flag!"
Meanwhile Mesut (who shoots at goal approximately once a league match on average) decided to try his luck! He forced a very nice save and got another corner kick for his troubles.

Then Crispy decided to try his luck from some 40 yards and an awkward angle -

One hopes his right leg is insured because it's a fairly awesome limb.

Coentrao certainly wishes his was just like it!

All this scoring and Higuain decided he should be next. It was the 40th minute. Madrid were up 3 goals against a team that was widely expected to cause them trouble. And all three goals had been uniquely beautiful! Golazos in every sense!

The second half was a calm enough affair, though Madrid did concede in the opening minutes...

Mesut started off his second half by passing gorgeously to Pipita within about 30 seconds of the whistle blowing. Alas! Crispy had plainly decided that shooting from 40 yards out and assisting the volley of the year wasn't enough for him. It was time to show off his killer defensive moves by effectively crowding out Pipita just as he was about to shoot!

Lucky not to be whistled for a penalty actually!
Doubtless Mesut was disappointed to see one of his killer passes messed up by his forwards (again!), but he was gracious enough to act as Crispy's lucky charm a few minutes later! It was Crispy's first goal off a free-kick in 41 attempts.

Note how Mesut and Crispy fooled the wall into moving!

You will note the goal-keeper running up to the referee to lament his misfortune. In the heat of the moment he seems to have forgotten that the goals he was conceding were in fact illusory - as is everything else in this vain world - and that he should not concern himself with the material things of this world etc...

Meanwhile Crispy - who was having a night to remember - more than made up for fouling Higuain in the box by setting him up gorgeously for his second goal.

With about 10 minutes to go, an old friend made a reappearance.

The Noodle returns!
And our nose-swiping, frustrated ball of ado.orablness and his fake tan made their exit - and spent the remaining minutes of the match sitting next to dearest friend Karim Benzema on the bench where they looked like a pair of tired, wide-eyed puppies.

Post-Match Notes
Since Sami was out with influenza, Mesut even let Karim sit next to him on the flight! He updated his Facebook with the following photograph:

Dobby's ears are so amazing. If I ever start a comm for him I'm calling it "elfin_ears"!
It came with the following quadrilingual message:

Next game is against Apoel Nicosia tomorrow evening. Widely considered a rubber-match, many of us will be far more interested in the outcome of Bayern v. Marseilles.
There are now 8 league matches to go. Madrid are still 6 points up.

Good luck lads!
Love, as always, to
