Madrid Win The Derby - Mesut Scores Another Goal Against Atletico Madrid

In the biggest game of the league season, against rivals Atletico Madrid, Mesut put in a lovely performance and scored the second goal!

He was pleased! And as he often does when he score on that side of the pitch, he waved and smiled and gestured at his crest for the Ultras.

He got lots of love - especially from Xabi and Sergio Ramos. I think they were pleased that a teammate who has had some minor difficulty did so well.

But special cuddles were reserved for assistant Crispy Ronaldo!

Mesut came off to a standing ovation from the crowd with about 4 minutes to go...

And finally, after Rui Faria had him tucked up inside a warm coat...

Phew! The result was such a relief.
Crispy's free kick was perfection.
Mesut's goal was a spicy nutmeg of deliciousness... and the lovefest that followed, similarly delicious. I whistled like a teapot. Almost got that assist when Cris hit the post, too.

His Twitter was all business after the game:
"2:0 - das war ein wichtiger Derby Sieg für uns. 2:0 - that was a very important Victory for us in the Derby. M1Ö"

No matter what happens in the league, I'm happy today! Soy muy feliz!

My favorite thing about that goal is the way Cristiano played the ball. It's like he didn't even look up when his pass to Benz was deflected: he just got the ball back and crossed it, knowing Mesut would be there to receive it. Amazing.

I was distracted during the game by too many things, but I managed to see his goal. Because my stream was a bit blurry it took me a few seconds to realize it was him. I was so thrilled I screamed and jumped up and down. We had some new people over to watch the game and I acted like a total loon. The perfect introduction to me. :)

I can't believe, I missed this. Went to bed early yesterday and just slept. I hate the Spanish football schedules. Why on earth do they have to start the games that late? Okay, but it was lovely news to wake up to. Keep on doing it, Bambi!!!

I'm absolutely Soy Muy Feliz about this game! Though I'm quite tired that the opponents consider the RM players to be some bunch of the whipping boys. In football so much depends on the referee. It's probably the game with the most vague rules and unfair results sometimes. Just like life;)

What a beautiful goal!! :) It was absolutely nice to watch this game, I think he has gotten some of his momentum back. Except the part where his leg hurt, of course. :(
