Theo Zwanziger's Farewell Lunch

In a previous entry in this community (the transcript of Mesut's press-conference) we learned the surprising news that Theo Zwanziger (the retiring head of the German Footballing Federation) felt particularly close to Mesut, personally. The DFB said goodbye to Zwanziger over coffee and cake.
Mesut was his usual prepossessing self at the event - and stuck close to Sami Khedira and Jerome Boateng (of Bayern Munich).

There were a large number of the usual DFB events this week - even though the boys were only together for two days or so. An Afghan artist made black and white drawings of the team and the boys got to look at (and sign) their pictures.

Mesut's picture was the weakest of the bunch in my opinion. I greatly prefer the original - his eye-brows are usually nearly invisible and his eyes are far more heavy-lidded.
Jogi Loew's portrait however was quite perfect, show-casing his quite amazing head-of-hair! And Mesut posed next to Oliver Bierhoff (an adolescent obsession of mine!) in the pictures. Also - old teammate Tim Wiese!

And of course, there were the usual events where the boys sat around gossipping and signing things.

For particular observers of the Samisut phenomenon these events are always priceless because the boys are quite inseparable!
"Happy on the Weser"
In a previous post we had Mesut reminiscing about happy days in Bremen with his old team!

Themagazine piece was a particularly nice love-letter to Mesut's time with his old club and to the city, as well as the still affectionate relationship Mesut seems to enjoy with his old coach and teammates.

Mesut also made the cover of the magazine, along with Franck Ribery of France and Bayern Munich.

The mini-feature with Jan Delay was also in the magazine. He described Mesut as a "very dear, very shy, very well-brought up fellow" and reminisced about their time together on the Bremen training ground and in the music studio. He is of course one of Mesut's favourite singers.

Marca Visits Gelsenkirchen

With Mesut off in Germany, Marca took the opportunity to visit Gelsenkirchen. They wrote up a feature on their trip about "Ozilito" as a child and made an obligatory pilgrimage to the "Monkey Cage" (described as dirty and muddy).

A picture of today's monkey-cage. Still rather dismal, actually!
Among the gems we got out of this piece: all this youth coaches considered him the best player they had ever coached.

Mesut also started with the bleach early (little fashionista!). Even as a small boy he already had a bleached head of hair!
He's remembered as "very shy, didn't eat much." The piece explains his progression from his youth teams (Westfalia Gelsenkirchen, Falke etc...) all the way to the Schalke A-Team, before his departure to Werder Bremen - a departure incidentally, that all feature write-ups this week have been very tactful about!

Javier Mejorada meets his idol, Mesut Ozil
The nine year old child was born without a tibia on his right leg and plays football with a prosthetic.
by Edu Bueno / Translation by Michael J. O’Donnell

Javier Mejorada Chamon is a nine year old child who loves football. He plays for the Under-12 Gredos San Diego side despite being born without a tibia on his right leg. In order to play football, Javier uses a prosthetic that, with his incredible drive and will to better himself, allows him to be as good as other kids his age who play the sporot. A true Madridista, Javier had a chance to meet his idol, Mesut Ozil, last Friday during the team’s training at Valdebebas.

The meeting was very moving because Javier had been dreaming about if for a very long time. It was a surprise to him and he was rendered speechless upon seeing the Real Madrid player. Ozil had been interested in his story and gave him a signed Real Madrid shirt and another with Javier’s name printed on the back. The child embraced the German player and told him he wishes the team “wins La Liga and the Champions League.”

When Javier was only one year old doctors advised to amputate the leg at knee height and his first prosthetic was installed when he was just 15 months old. Every time he steps onto a football pitch he he sets a great example for self-improvement and hard work, proving everything is possible if you set your mind to it. “I scored 19 goals last year and I’ve already netted five this season,” he said.

What an incredible kid!

Or, How To Effortlessly Replace One Bromance With Another!
March 1, 2012
With Karim and Sami both training separately due to injury, you might have thought Mesut would be lonely!

Well - certainly not! Even when Mesut doesn't go out seeking a bromance, it will normally collide straight into him - or tug him ever-so-gently in its direction.

Croezil, awwzil.

Never fear however! Benzema might still be out, but Sami has returned!

Old bromancing habits have resumed!

And he looks so innocent and oblivious to what he does to mere girls who are helpless against his Mesuty charmsAh this reminds me, how come he got his hair bleached? I use bleach pretty frequently myself and not only it hurts
like hell, it's only meant to be applied on people's hair of some certain age.no subject

The relevant portions were translated toward the end of that post. The article is mainly about Jan Delay as Werder Bremen fan.
He also says, over the course of the article in general, that players like Ozil (and Goetze) amaze him and are a good reason to go into the stadium to see them live.

Let's just say...Sami went on a date and someone tagged along...

Date: 2012-03-04 12:39 am (UTC)Lol. I know what you mean. They're just so ridiculous. I like to imagine it as Sami mentioning they were going out and Mesut being all, "I'm up for that," and not realising it was a date.

Date: 2012-03-04 01:01 am (UTC)I'm increasingly under the impression that if you hook up with one of them, you're sort of stuck with both!
Now this is hardly a tragedy is it ;)

Date: 2012-03-04 07:58 pm (UTC)As to her birthday, oh well. They will have had to write off much of the romantic stuff anyway, since it was a game day with the international friendly Germany - France.
Greetings! (this was my first post...)
